Today, our medic units had to respond Code 3 (lights and sirens) from Corvallis twice for emergency calls in the valley due to no available local ALS units at the time.

While patients were still cared for, these longer-distance responses increase response times and highlight the ongoing strain on regional EMS resources.
We appreciate the community’s continued support as our crews work to provide emergency care whenever and wherever needed.

Edit: Abulance Service to Scio is shared between Lebanon and Jefferson/Santiam

We're not even halfway through the shift and the Lebanon Fire District has already received 23 calls for service. Did you know that emergency medical services in Lebanon, Scio, and Brownsville are provided exclusively by the Lebanon Fire District? Unlike larger cities around the state, there is no private or hospital based ambulance service available to our community.

We are not the only department suffering from rising operating costs, poor insurance reimbursement rates, and lack of funding from our state. What will emergency service look like a year from now? 5 years from now?

Many volunteer and paid on call fire departments are reaching a breaking point. Howerver, contrary to what some believe, this is not due to a lack of commitment by the current membership, but rather serving as a volunteer has become financially unsustainable for most of the people doing the work.

Rising costs of living, minuscule incentives, low or zero pay, unpaid and extensive training requirements, and the need to possibly juggle multiple jobs are forcing responders to choose between community service and supporting their families.

This modern reality is driving down recruitment and retention, especially in small and rural communities that rely heavily on volunteers. Without meaningful financial incentives such as tax credits, retirement options, or broader state and federal support, communities risk losing emergency services altogether not from apathy, but from economic reality.

The Lebanon Professional Firefighters would like to take a moment to recognize the following promotions of its members.
Tyler Day - Engineer
Rylan Rogers - Engineer
Jason Carroll - Lieutenant
Jason Adamson - Deputy Fire Marshall

Tyler Day joined the Lebanon Fire District in 2017 as a Student Intern. During that time he attended Chemeketa Community College where he earned his Paramedic certificate. He was hired as a full time Firefighter/Paramedic in 2020. During his time at the LFD Tyler has served as an FTO (Field Training Officer) and as a member of the Technical Rope Rescue and Swiftwater Rescue program. Tyler is looking forward to taking this very important step in his career and continuing to develop his skills as an Engineer/Apparatus Operator.

Rylan Rogers also joined the LFD in 2017 as a student intern. He earned a Bachelor's Degree from OSU in Business and Communication and his Paramedic License from Southwestern Oregon Community College. Rylan has also served as an FTO (Field Training Officer) for the LFD and is a member of the Technical Rope and Swiftwater Rescue program. Rylan says he owes his success to some of the people who mentored him throughout his career including LT Gaskey, BC Nunes, and BC Suing.

Jason Carroll joined the LFD as a Volunteer Firefighter/EMT in 2017 and was hired as a full-time Firefighter/EMT in 2018. While working for the LFD he received his associates degree and certificate in Paramedicine from the College of Emergency Services. He promoted to Engineer in 2021. Jason is the lead instructor for the LFD’s Technical Rescue program and its Apparatus Operator academies. He also serves as the President for the Lebanon Professional Firefighter’s Union. Jason has been working as an AIC Lieutenant and is most looking forward to the opportunity to focus solely on his new position as Lieutenant and helping others as they progress through their careers at the LFD.

Jason Adamson began his career as a volunteer Firefighter/EMT with the LFD in 2005 and was hired to a full-time position in 2017. Shortly after, Jason received his Associates degree and Paramedic certificate. During his time with the district he has served as a Firefighter, Engineer and Lieutenant. He also serves as the Vice President of the Lebanon Professional Firefighter’s Union. Jason has a passion for fire prevention and is excited about his new position as Deputy Fire Marshall. He enjoys getting out into the community, meeting new people, and educating people about fire and life safety.

The Lebanon Fire District is not the only fire department dealing with rising costs of operation , inadequate tax revenue, and poor insurance reimbursement rates.

Due to the loss of funding, Lane Fire Authority has made the difficult decision to remove one peak-hour ambulance that previously operated out of the Veneta station from service. Additional service reductions or adjusted hours for another peak-hour unit may also be considered. Two full-time ambulances remain in service.

While emergency medical services continue districtwide, response times are expected to increase.

The Board of Directors will discuss funding issues and future service considerations at the public meeting on January 20, 2026. Meeting schedules and recordings are available at lanefire.org/boardmeetings.

Only an hour into shift and crews are responding to an MVA (motor vehicle accident) at the corner of Tangent and 12th. Two patients were transported to the hospital for further evaluation. It's already shaping up to be a busy day for the Lebanon Fire District and our partners down at Lebanon Community Hospital. As a reminder, the roads are slippery and the fog is thick. Make sure you give yourself a little extra time for your commute and that all your vehicle's lights are on. Stay safe everyone.
