🐾 "Patches’" Second Chance ❤️

When "Chris" reached out for help, his beloved dog Patches was struggling with severe arthritis and a back fracture. The future felt uncertain.

But thanks to the compassion of our veterinary partners, Crab Orchard Veterinary Services (Dr. Anne, Dr. Lois, Amie Shortt Kausch & their amazing staff) and our volunteer driver, Anisia Johnson, Patches received care to help her heal — and last week she was fitted with a wheelchair, giving her a new chance to move, explore, and enjoy life again.

We are incredibly grateful to our vet partners who help turn heartbreaking situations into hopeful ones, and to everyone who supports our mission.

Because of partnerships and community support, we can continue providing pet care assistance that preserves the bond between people and the pets they love.

For Chris and Patches, this sad story became one of hope. ❤️🐾

🐾 A Huge Thank You to Our Village! 🐾

⭐️Because of the incredible generosity of our volunteers, donors, and grant partners, 10 dogs and 21 cats from Russell County,Virginia and Tazewell County, Virginia received life-changing spay and neuter services through our mobile clinic program! A big thanks to Angels of Assisi for giving excellent care to our pets❤️

⭐️This work would not be possible without the people who believe in our mission to improve access to veterinary care for pets in rural, Southwest Virginia.

⭐️Every donation, every mile driven, every hour volunteered, and every act of support helps prevent unwanted litters, reduce suffering, and keep pets healthier and in loving homes.

Every day, animal rescues and shelters see the horrific results of unplanned litters — puppies and kittens without homes, overcrowded shelters, and animals struggling to survive on the streets.

Spaying and neutering your pets is one of the most loving and responsible choices you can make. It helps reduce pet overpopulation, lowers the risk of certain cancers and health issues, and can even improve behavior.

One unspayed female dog and her puppies can produce thousands of descendants in just a few years. The same is true for cats.

When you spay or neuter, you are helping:
🐾 Reduce homeless animals
🐾 Prevent suffering and neglect
🐾 Support overcrowded shelters and rescues
🐾 Give every pet a better chance at a safe, loving home

🐾 Another Life-Changing Transport Complete! 🐾

This week, Friends of Russell County Animals partnered with Angels of Assisi to provide FREE spay/neuter surgeries and vaccines for:
🐱 23 cats
🐶 13 dogs

That’s 36 pets who will no longer contribute to unwanted litters—and 36 families who received critical support they otherwise may not have been able to access.

💙 Why this matters:
In our rural communities, many loving pet owners face barriers to veterinary care—cost, transportation, and access. By removing those barriers, we’re not just helping animals…

✔️ We’re keeping pets with the families who love them
✔️ We’re preventing suffering from overpopulation
✔️ We’re reducing the number of animals entering already overwhelmed shelters
✔️ We’re strengthening our community—one pet at a time.
