Job Summary
The Counselor performs key roles in the development, delivery, and promotion of P.R.O.B.E.’s career development programming and other programs awarded to P.R.O.B.E.: Job responsibilities include instructional training, counseling, coaching and demonstrating excellent interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills with honesty, enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and cultural competence.
Work duties shall include, but are not limited to:
• Deliver the New Choices curriculum to clients, employing and modifying methods of instruction, facilitation, and counseling to maximize client learning, engagement, and attainment of goals
• Provide client mentoring and support when appropriate
• Collaborate, report, and consult directly with Executive Director regarding curriculum, instruction, and overall program development throughout a course cycle
• Identify tools, resources, and best practices to facilitate ongoing program improvement
• Participate in the processes of client orientation, retention, and completion
• Learn and use technology to enhance the educational experience as appropriate
• Collect, maintain, and provide data, client notes, and other requested information to appropriate P.R.O.B.E. staff and team members
• Identify opportunities for marketing the program and recruiting clients
• Manage, collect data, and support other county facilitators
Essential Functions:
• Establish and oversee administrative procedures to meet objectives set by program guidelines and coalition partners
• Participate in the determination of organizational policies regarding such issues as participant eligibility, program requirements, and program benefits
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
• Understand and support P.R.O.B.E.’s Mission Statement
• Understand and model the work ethics and concepts presented in class
• Degree in social sciences, psychology, human services, or another related field; Bachelor’s Degree preferred; enrollment in social sciences, psychology, human services, or another related program will be considered.
• Primarily daytime position with some evenings required to facilitate support groups and periodic evening classes
• Basic computer skills and a familiarity with business software a necessity. (Microsoft Office, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, Word Google docs, QuickBooks)
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
• An excellent understanding of the needs and challenges of the populations served through P.R.O.B.E.’s projects and programs
• Understand and model the work ethics and concepts presented in class
• Proven ability to lead meetings, classes, workshops and delegate responsibilities
• Experience with non-profit organizations, and the skills, knowledge and experience in the political and social arena of career development and economic self-sufficiency
Skills & Abilities:
• Ability to work effectively with and present a professional image to multiple constituencies (board, staff, volunteers, community, business, government & regulatory agencies)
• Self-starter, able to take initiative and make intuitive decisions
• Strong managerial skills including effective communication both written and verbal, with an ability to communicate and relate to various constituencies
• Sensitive to multicultural issues, with the ability to work respectfully with people coming from a variety of backgrounds and cultures
Physical Requirements:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and drive.
• Job requires frequent verbal communication
• Computer, telephone and fax use are frequently required
• Ability to speak and hear by phone and in person up to 8 hours a day
• Ability to lift and carry boxes and objects up to 20 pounds when required
