Today, our Lebanon Kiwanis Club welcomed Chris Johnson, President/CEO of the Countryside YMCA, who shared an exciting vision for a new All-Access Splash Pad & Playground planned for the YMCA’s Lebanon campus.

The project is designed to go beyond basic accessibility and create a truly inclusive space where children, adults, caregivers, and individuals of all abilities can play, connect, and enjoy time together. Plans include an adaptive playground and splash pad, accessible surfacing, sensory play features, shade and seating, and future community gathering spaces.

Even better, the space is planned to be open to the entire community, not just YMCA members.

Countryside YMCA has already secured funding from the State of Ohio toward the project and is working with community partners to raise the additional funds needed to bring the vision to life.

Thank you, Chris, for sharing more about this exciting project and the YMCA’s continued commitment to strengthening families, increasing accessibility, and creating opportunities for everyone in our community. We look forward to seeing this vision become a reality!

A big thank you to Jane Conn, executive director from United Way of Warren County for joining us this week and sharing an informative update on the incredible work United Way is doing throughout our community!

Jane highlighted how United Way of Warren County keeps donations local and focuses its impact in four key areas: Health & Wellness, Financial Stability, Youth Opportunities, and Basic Needs.

We also learned more about the many ways United Way strengthens Warren County through:

* Community partnerships and nonprofit funding
* Mini Impact Grants
* The annual Toy Drive
* Community Care Day
* The 2-1-1 Resource Line
* Workplace, individual, and corporate giving

The impact is impressive. Through strong partnerships and responsible stewardship, United Way helps connect local individuals and families with the resources and support they need.

90 Years of Service, Friendship & Community Impact!

At our recent meeting, Daryl Dunn presented on the history, impact, and member experience of the Lebanon Kiwanis Club, giving us a chance to reflect on where we’ve been and what continues to make this club special.

Chartered on December 18, 1935, the Lebanon Kiwanis Club has spent 90 years living out the Kiwanis motto: “We Serve.”

Daryl shared stories about the club’s traditions, fundraisers, changes through the years, and most importantly, the people who have made Kiwanis such an important part of our community.

From golf outings and pancake breakfasts to the Bailey’s and Bacon 5K, merit awards for graduating seniors, support for the Lebanon Food Pantry, and countless other projects, our focus continues to be serving the children of Lebanon and strengthening our community.

Members also shared what Kiwanis has meant to them personally. Again and again, the conversation came back to friendship, connection, belonging, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

Our club has changed over the decades, but the heart of Kiwanis remains the same:

💙 Serve children. Strengthen community. Build friendships. Have fun along the way.

⛳ What an incredible day for our community!

On August 7th, our Annual Kiwanis Golf Outing raised nearly $10,000 to support youth right here in our community! Thanks to the generosity of our golfers who braved the rain, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters.

We are especially grateful to our amazing sponsors. Your support helps make this event possible and allows Lebanon Kiwanis to continue investing in programs and opportunities that make a difference in the lives of local kids.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who joined us on the course, volunteered their time, donated, or helped spread the word. This event is a great reminder of what we can accomplish when our community comes together for kids.

Nearly $10,000 raised. One great day. A lasting impact on local youth. ❤️

🐷 Supporting Local Youth and Local Families!

Last week the Lebanon Kiwanis was proud to participate in the Hog Market Sale at the Warren County Fair. The meat from the hogs purchased was donated to Shared Harvest Foodbank, helping support local food pantries and families in need throughout our community.

A special thank-you to the Rotary Club of Lebanon, Ohio, and the Ohio Honey Festival for partnering with us on these hog purchases. Together, we were able to support the hard work of our Junior Fair exhibitors while also helping provide food to neighbors in need.

In July 21st, Victoria Bloechl from Beech Acres Family Services recently joined our Kiwanis Club to share how the organization supports children and families throughout Southwest Ohio.

Beach Acres provides parenting education, coaching, behavioral health services, supervised visitation, kinship support groups, and intensive family-centered treatment. Their programs help strengthen families, prevent separation, support reunification, and connect parents and caregivers with needed resources.

On July 7, the Warren County Kiwanis Club welcomed Warren County Auditor Matt Nolan and Chief Deputy Paul Bernard for an informative update on property taxes and their impact on local services.

Members learned that Warren County residents will see the first property tax decrease in more than a decade. The presentation also explained how some of the tax burden is shifting from property taxes to sales tax revenue, with future funding for schools, fire and EMS, and libraries increasingly depending on voter-approved levies.

At today's Kiwanis meeting, we were honored to hear from Captain Brian Payne, Assistant Jail Administrator with the Warren County Sheriff's Office. With 26+ years of experience, Captain Payne gave us a fascinating, and eye-opening, look at how our local jail operates.

A few things that really stood out:

🔘The Warren County Jail opened in October 2021 and currently houses around 285 inmates, with 24/7 medical and mental health care on-site.
🔘Nearly half of all bookings last year required a behavioral health referral. The facility is doing real work to address the root causes of incarceration.
🔘A discharge coordinator program is in the works to connect people leaving jail with community resources, a key step in reducing repeat offenses.
🔘Staff wellness matters too, chaplains and peer support teams are available to officers navigating a demanding job.

It's a reminder that community safety is about so much more than just enforcement, it's about connection, care, and giving people a path forward.

🎓✨ Our Kiwanis Club proudly awarded more than $25,000 this year to recognize outstanding students who exemplify leadership, service, and academic achievement.

These annual merit scholarships honor beloved community members and dedicated volunteers whose legacies continue to inspire future generations. Many of the recipients have been actively involved in Key Club and other organizations, demonstrating a strong commitment to serving others and making a positive impact in our community.

This celebration was a powerful reminder of how community support and service can empower the next generation to dream big and lead boldly. We are so proud of each and every recipient and look forward to seeing all they accomplish!
