Thank you to Lebanon Police Chief Jeff Mitchell for joining the Lebanon Kiwanis Club this past Tuesday!

Chief Mitchell shared about his background, his years of service to the Lebanon community, and the department’s commitment to professional standards and accreditation.

We also learned more about the School Resource Officer program and the important role officers play in building positive relationships with local students.

A large part of the conversation focused on Flock license plate reader cameras, including how the technology is used, the safeguards in place, and the privacy concerns that have been part of the community discussion.

We appreciate Chief Mitchell taking the time to answer questions and share more about the work of the Lebanon Police Department.

Several members of the Lebanon Kiwanis Club had the opportunity to attend the Warren County Community Services luncheon at Miami Valley Gaming on September 23.

We enjoyed learning more about the incredible range of services WCCS provides throughout our community. Their work truly spans generations, from Head Start and Early Head Start programs that give our youngest residents a strong start, to assistance for individuals and families facing financial challenges, affordable housing, and programs that help older adults remain healthy, active, and independent.

It was a wonderful reminder of how much can be accomplished when organizations throughout Warren County work together to care for and strengthen our community.

A big thank you to Ben Morehouse from the Lebanon Public Library Technology Center for joining us and giving our Kiwanis members such an interesting look into the world of 3D printing!

Ben showed us how this technology can be used for everything from creating replacement parts and custom designs to scanning objects and experimenting with different materials. We also learned about the wide variety of 3D printing classes and resources available right here in our community.

The Lebanon Public Library’s Technology Center offers 3D printing services, technology classes, and hands-on learning opportunities for both youth and adults. Their 3D printing classes introduce participants to design concepts, materials, supports, infill, modeling, and even creative projects such as personalized lithophanes.

Thank you, Ben, for sharing your knowledge, answering our questions, and reminding us what an incredible resource the Lebanon Public Library is for lifelong learning and innovation in our community!

Last week, we were grateful to welcome Scott Stephens, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butler County, to share more about the incredible impact mentoring can have on young people in our community.

Scott shared how Big Brothers Big Sisters creates meaningful one-on-one relationships between caring adult volunteers and children who can benefit from an additional positive influence in their lives. These relationships often begin with a one-year commitment but can grow into lifelong connections.

We also learned about the many ways BBBS makes mentoring accessible, including community-based mentoring, school-based programs, Lunch Buddies, group mentoring, and special opportunities for children who are still waiting to be matched.

The stories and outcomes Scott shared were a powerful reminder that one consistent, caring adult can make a tremendous difference in a child’s confidence, outlook, and future.

Jennifer Adams from Wren Works recently joined the Lebanon Kiwanis Club to share how Wren Works is supporting literacy in our community.

With support from organizations including Lebanon Kiwanis, Wren Works has collected and distributed approximately 8,000 children’s books since January. Families can choose books for children from infancy through age 18, helping build home libraries and encourage a love of reading.

Jennifer also highlighted Wren Works’ monthly Nature Reads events, which pair free books with hands-on family activities. 🌿📖

Wren Works welcomes book donations, volunteers, and community partners. To support this effort, the Lebanon Kiwanis Club has decided to collect books at our meetings to donate to this cause.

Today, our Lebanon Kiwanis Club welcomed Chris Johnson, President/CEO of the Countryside YMCA, who shared an exciting vision for a new All-Access Splash Pad & Playground planned for the YMCA’s Lebanon campus.

The project is designed to go beyond basic accessibility and create a truly inclusive space where children, adults, caregivers, and individuals of all abilities can play, connect, and enjoy time together. Plans include an adaptive playground and splash pad, accessible surfacing, sensory play features, shade and seating, and future community gathering spaces.

Even better, the space is planned to be open to the entire community, not just YMCA members.

Countryside YMCA has already secured funding from the State of Ohio toward the project and is working with community partners to raise the additional funds needed to bring the vision to life.

Thank you, Chris, for sharing more about this exciting project and the YMCA’s continued commitment to strengthening families, increasing accessibility, and creating opportunities for everyone in our community. We look forward to seeing this vision become a reality!

A big thank you to Jane Conn, executive director from United Way of Warren County for joining us this week and sharing an informative update on the incredible work United Way is doing throughout our community!

Jane highlighted how United Way of Warren County keeps donations local and focuses its impact in four key areas: Health & Wellness, Financial Stability, Youth Opportunities, and Basic Needs.

We also learned more about the many ways United Way strengthens Warren County through:

* Community partnerships and nonprofit funding
* Mini Impact Grants
* The annual Toy Drive
* Community Care Day
* The 2-1-1 Resource Line
* Workplace, individual, and corporate giving

The impact is impressive. Through strong partnerships and responsible stewardship, United Way helps connect local individuals and families with the resources and support they need.

90 Years of Service, Friendship & Community Impact!

At our recent meeting, Daryl Dunn presented on the history, impact, and member experience of the Lebanon Kiwanis Club, giving us a chance to reflect on where we’ve been and what continues to make this club special.

Chartered on December 18, 1935, the Lebanon Kiwanis Club has spent 90 years living out the Kiwanis motto: “We Serve.”

Daryl shared stories about the club’s traditions, fundraisers, changes through the years, and most importantly, the people who have made Kiwanis such an important part of our community.

From golf outings and pancake breakfasts to the Bailey’s and Bacon 5K, merit awards for graduating seniors, support for the Lebanon Food Pantry, and countless other projects, our focus continues to be serving the children of Lebanon and strengthening our community.

Members also shared what Kiwanis has meant to them personally. Again and again, the conversation came back to friendship, connection, belonging, and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

Our club has changed over the decades, but the heart of Kiwanis remains the same:

💙 Serve children. Strengthen community. Build friendships. Have fun along the way.

⛳ What an incredible day for our community!

On August 7th, our Annual Kiwanis Golf Outing raised nearly $10,000 to support youth right here in our community! Thanks to the generosity of our golfers who braved the rain, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters.

We are especially grateful to our amazing sponsors. Your support helps make this event possible and allows Lebanon Kiwanis to continue investing in programs and opportunities that make a difference in the lives of local kids.

And, of course, thank you to everyone who joined us on the course, volunteered their time, donated, or helped spread the word. This event is a great reminder of what we can accomplish when our community comes together for kids.

Nearly $10,000 raised. One great day. A lasting impact on local youth. ❤️

At today's Kiwanis meeting, we were honored to hear from Captain Brian Payne, Assistant Jail Administrator with the Warren County Sheriff's Office. With 26+ years of experience, Captain Payne gave us a fascinating, and eye-opening, look at how our local jail operates.

A few things that really stood out:

🔘The Warren County Jail opened in October 2021 and currently houses around 285 inmates, with 24/7 medical and mental health care on-site.
🔘Nearly half of all bookings last year required a behavioral health referral. The facility is doing real work to address the root causes of incarceration.
🔘A discharge coordinator program is in the works to connect people leaving jail with community resources, a key step in reducing repeat offenses.
🔘Staff wellness matters too, chaplains and peer support teams are available to officers navigating a demanding job.

It's a reminder that community safety is about so much more than just enforcement, it's about connection, care, and giving people a path forward.
