💙 Staff Spotlight: Meet Dean 💙
If you’ve been to L-Life Food Pantry over the past 8 years, chances are you’ve met Dean—or at least seen him in action, sitting at his desk.

Dean has been with L-Life for nearly 8 years. He started out as a volunteer, then was recruited to the Board of Directors. When the Executive Director decided to retire, Dean was asked to step into the leadership role six years ago.

Most of the time, he is busy handling the necessary paperwork, forms, filings, and tax reporting required to keep L-Life operating smoothly. However, he can also be found stepping out of his office to help with carryout or give staff and volunteers a much-needed break.

Thanks in part to Dean’s dedication and leadership, L-Life has grown substantially—doubling both the donations received and the food distributed to food-insecure families throughout Laclede County. He has also helped bring new programs to life, helping expand our reach and impact in the community.

While much of Dean’s work happens behind the scenes, his compassion for the community stands out above all else. He is a supportive leader, a great boss, and someone who always manages to make the team laugh—even on the busiest days.

Now for a few fun facts about Dean :
🍕 Loves Mellow Mushroom pizza and Five Guys spicy fries
📚 Enjoys reading a good mystery or science fiction novel
⛈️ Likes sitting on his porch during rainy days, watching thunderstorms with his dogs nearby
💙 Blue is his favorite color.

Dean represents what L-Life is all about— serving others with compassion, dedication, and a genuine desire to make a difference in our community.

When school is out for summer, many families feel the added pressure of providing extra meals and snacks at home each day.

That is why we offer an extra bag of food for each child at home during June and July through our Children’s Summer Program for registered clients.

From breakfast items and easy lunches to snacks and pantry staples, these extra groceries help families stretch their budgets a little further during the summer months.

Community support helps make this program possible and helps ensure local children continue to have access to food all summer long.

Hunger has no season… and neither does compassion. ❤️

At L-Life Food Pantry, our Hunger Has No Season mission means serving our community through every season of life.

From children needing weekend food bags, to seniors on fixed incomes… from hardworking families struggling to make ends meet, to individuals facing homelessness, diabetes, or unexpected hardships — we are here.

Through our Senior Boxes, Children’s Bags, Workforce Program, Homeless Outreach, Diabetic Support, Big Family assistance, and healthy food options, we work to make sure no one has to face hunger alone.

Because hunger doesn’t take a holiday, a summer break, or a day off… and neither do the hearts of those who support this mission.

Did you know your charitable donations may help at tax time too? ❤️

Beginning in 2026, taxpayers who do NOT itemize deductions may still qualify for an “above-the-line” deduction for cash donations made to qualified public charities like L-Life Food Pantry.

✔️ Up to $1,000 for single filers
✔️ Up to $2,000 for married couples filing jointly

That means you can support local families facing food insecurity while also receiving a tax benefit — even if you take the standard deduction.

Every single month, we can count on a special community member to drop off donations for our homeless bag program. ❤️

Recently, they asked us, “Do you know why I do this?”
Then shared, “Because I’ve been there before. Until you’ve been there, you just don’t know.”

Those words stuck with us.

So many of the people who give back do so because they understand the struggle firsthand. Their compassion comes from lived experience, and that kind of kindness makes a powerful impact.

We are incredibly grateful for their faithful support and their heart for those experiencing homelessness. Thank you for helping us remind people they are seen, cared for, and not forgotten.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the reason we enjoy the freedoms we have today.

As we spend time with family and friends this Memorial Day, may we also take a moment to reflect with gratitude for those who never made it home. 🇺🇸

In observance of Memorial Day, we will be closed Monday and will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, May 26.
