In this episode, Tracey and Jeff explore why self-care is so important for CASA volunteers and anyone who dedicates their time and energy to helping others. Advocating for children in foster care can be rewarding, but it can also be emotionally challenging, making it essential to prioritize our own well-being. They discuss practical ways to manage stress, maintain balance, and recognize when we need to take a step back and recharge. Because when we take care of ourselves, we are better equipped to show up, advocate, and make a lasting difference in the lives of the children and families in our community.

Today, we recognize and honor the histories, cultures, traditions, and enduring contributions of Indigenous peoples. It is a time to reflect on the importance of understanding our shared history, respecting diverse perspectives, and celebrating the strength of Indigenous communities.

At CASA SHaW, we believe every child deserves to have their identity, culture, and heritage respected and valued. Every child has a story worth hearing, and every child deserves an advocate who will listen, stand beside them, and help ensure their voice is heard.

Foster care is a complex world for children. Children who are removed from their home due to no fault of their own have to navigate resource families, social workers, lawyers, school, many more aspects to an uncertain time. Every child deserves a nurturing and safe environment, which is what we advocate for here at CASA. Increased awareness ensures more children receive the care they need. Spread the word!

As part of our CASA SHaW Family Video Series, former foster youth, Brittney Bray, narrates her story. Within this video, Brittney describes the day she was removed from her parents' care and then her subsequent journey through the foster care system. Not many former foster youth take the time to tell their story and provide details. That's why this video is special to us. Her story is meant to help the viewer and listener understand the world of foster care that much more.
