CASA SHaW

CASA SHaW Our Mission Statement: CASA SHaW provides well-trained, trauma informed volunteers to serve as advocates in court for children living in foster care.

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Somerset, Hunterdon, & Warren Counties (CASA SHaW) is a non-profit charitable organization that recruits, screens, and trains community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in foster care. Our goal is to ensure that every child served has a safe, permanent home and the resources and services needed to thrive and not just survive adverse chil

dhood experiences. We are committed to educating ourselves and the community about the causes and impacts of child abuse and neglect, the need for racial equity in a disproportionate system, and how to best advocate for and meet the needs of children in foster care in Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren Counties.

🎥 VIDEO: Advocating For a Child With Special Needs.

Do you know a family member or friend facing challenges with understanding the rights of children who have special needs? Gabrielle Bohon from the Falcon Law Group discussed with us how to plan for the future if your child has special needs. This video and presentation was designed to educate families and individuals within the world of foster care and beyond about the critical steps families should take for a child with special needs as they all plan for the future. Please feel free to share within your network.

Children and babies do best when they can safely remain with their parents or with other family members. That's why reunification is always our goal at CASA. We want children to thrive, not just survive.

🎙New CASA CONNECTION podcast is up!

On this episode, Tracey and Jeff talk about understanding the concepts of fight or flight - and they also sprinkle in some freeze and fawn talk. How does trauma impact youth in foster care, and consequently, how do they react when triggered or re-traumatized? Is it fight? Is it flight? How does guilt, shame, and fear come into the equation? We get into it in this episode.

In the foster care system, children often meet many professionals - caseworkers, attorneys, judges - but too rarely do they have someone whose only role is simply to stand beside them.

CASA volunteers become that steady presence. They learn a child’s favorite subjects, celebrate small victories, and make sure their fears, hopes, and needs don’t get lost in paperwork or court schedules. When life feels uncertain, a CASA volunteer offers something powerful: consistency.

For a child who has experienced upheaval, knowing that one caring adult keeps showing up can restore trust and rebuild hope.

Sometimes the greatest change in a child’s life begins with one person choosing to care deeply and speak up when it matters most. That is the impact of a CASA volunteer. Learn more today at CASASHaW.org!

We're celebrating and recognizing PRIDE MONTH! Here are 3 simple ways you can recognize PRIDE MONTH and beyond:

1. Attend an event in your area: Find PRIDE events in your community here: https://visitnj.org/lgbtq-pride

2. Become an ally: When someone in your life tells you that they are LGBTQIA+, your initial reaction may be one of surprise, excitement, confusion, discomfort, or none of the above. Be honest in your response, but you should also recognize the importance of your response and the impact it may have.

3. Support LGBTQ+ art and culture: The LGBTQ+ art community is vibrant, influential and pervasive. Go see a LGBTQ+-themed show or movie, visit an LGBTQ+ art gallery, or buy an album from an LGBTQ+ artist.
