We have 3 large fields, trails, a pavilion, horse rings, running water, flushable bathrooms, and more! All use of the Sauerland Outdoor Center is by prior reservation only! Only non-profit organizations and their guests are allowed on-site during their reserved timeframes. The Sauerland Outdoor Center is tucked away in the picturesque Cushetunk Mountains of Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The Center
consists of 82 acres of gently rolling hills and quiet forested areas. The land is operated by the Hunterdon Conservation, Education and Recreation Council, Inc., a non-profit corporation. Our facility is directed by volunteer trustees who oversee the maintenance of the facility. the Center's lands and structures are leased from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection and is operated and maintained through the donations of user-groups and private individuals. The Center has 1800 feet of frontage on the tranquil Round Valley Reservoir, which is a New Jersey Water Conservation Project. The physical attributes of the Center are varied and flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of outdoor activities for groups of all sizes (5-1000). Activities do not stop at camping, fishing, hiking and picnics. Special events play a large part in the Center's life. Music festivals, pet shows, Indian cultural festivals, mountain bike competitions, educational workshops, Civil War reenactments, and horse shows have all been hosted at the facility. If you are a non-profit organization bring your ideas to the Round Valley Youth Center. We will work with you to guarantee that your event will be an especially memorable time for your group! NOTE: No fi****ms, pets, alcohol or recreational drugs are allowed on the premises at any time. DAM CONSTRUCTION IMPACT: Currently the South dam of Round Valley reservoir, which was built in the early 1960's, is being upgraded to current engineering standards. Because of this work the reservoir is very low but still accessible from out site. The large upper field and our space to the left of the road past the barn is currently being used as a staging area for this effort. We have a very large field below the horse rings, the two horse rings, a smaller field behind the house and the pavilion. We hope to have another small camping area reopened at the very top of the hill in the grove area early next year as well. ASH TREE ISSUES: The emerald ash borer, an invasive beetle from Asia, has killed off almost all of our ash trees or about 50% of our forested area. We are working to cut as many high-risk trees down as possible but given the numbers there are far more then we can manage at this time. To help ensure everyone's safety, we have set aside buffer zones where trees may fall and advise people not to camp anywhere near wooded areas. In addition, if the wind or gusts are forecasted to rise above 30MPH, users should stay out of the wooded areas entirely and keep an extra eye out for falling branches and trees throughout the Sauerland Outdoor Center and neighboring Round Valley Recreation Area.
