🍂 A new month means new opportunities to serve!

This September, you can help stock a food pantry, deliver furniture and household essentials to families, support the Habitat ReStore, serve at a free clothing store, assist with food distribution, care for unhoused neighbors, and more!

There is a place for your time, talents, and heart to make a difference. ❤️

Our community partners will continue adding new needs throughout the month, so don’t check the calendar just once—come back often to see what’s new!

Check out the six organizations that currently have opportunities on the platform!

When disaster strikes, our neighbors need help quickly—and Volunteer Network makes sure people are ready to respond. During this year’s winter storm, we helped coordinate over 260 volunteers who served over 750 hours of volunteer service.

That same spirit of service continues year-round as we connect volunteers with more than 50 nonprofits, schools, churches, and organizations across Wilson County.

Join us Monday from 5:00–9:00 p.m. at East Nashville Beer Works, where 10% of proceeds will benefit Volunteer Network. Your additional donation will help keep our community connected, prepared, and ready to serve when our neighbors need us most.

Thank you to Wilson County Community Help Center and Lebanon Senior Citizens Center for helping with providing lunch for our Cooling Center yesterday!

And thank you to Wilson Rides Inc. and BJ's Wholesale Club for donating brand new sets of towels for our guests to shower and delicious and refreshing watermelon!

We can’t do what we do without the support of the community and having our nonprofit community wrap around these efforts makes all the difference!

Thank you, Veronica Leah Anderson, Gaye Lynn Wilson, and Heather for being shining stars of service!

And thank you to our amazing volunteers for making these shelters possible. Yesterday we had 18 people staying safe and cool! They received lunch, dinner, water, Gatorade, fruit, snacks, a cool and safe environment to beat the heat, and to go boxes to take with them!

Lucinda Woody, Jason Deiter, Alan Terwey, Victor M Garcia, Nathan Huddleston and more! We’re so grateful for your service to our community!

And, of course, thank you to Wilson County Emergency Management Agency and Lebanon First United Methodist Church for partnering together to make this weekend possible!

There are so many gaps for us to fill to ensure our community has the resources they need, but these shelters are an amazing example of what can happen when we see a need and we step up to meet it!

🚨 No surprise, Wilson County, it is HOT outside! In partnership with Wilson Emergency Management Agency and Lebanon First United Methodist Church, we’re opening a Cooling Center Saturday and Sunday! To make that happen, we need volunteers!

We are also seeking individuals, churches, businesses, and community groups to provide and serve food for our guests. Your support will help keep our neighbors safe, cool, and cared for during the Excessive Heat Warning.

We are humbled to share that Volunteer Network has been featured in FEMA's July 2026 Voluntary Agency Liaison (VAL) Snapshot, highlighting our community's response in Wilson County during Winter Storm Fern.

This recognition isn't really about Volunteer Network.

It's about what happens when a community decides that no one should face a disaster alone.

During Winter Storm Fern, Wilson County came together in an extraordinary way. Wilson County Emergency Management Agency (WEMA), churches, businesses, nonprofits, government leaders, volunteers, donors, and countless community members worked side by side to provide safe, warm shelter for our neighbors during dangerously cold temperatures.
Hundreds of volunteer hours were given. Meals were prepared. Supplies were donated. Cots were set up. Doors were opened. Lives were touched.

Every person played a part.

Disasters don't begin when the storm arrives—they begin long before, in the relationships we build, the plans we make, and the partnerships we strengthen. Winter Storm Fern reminded us that preparedness is a community effort, and because so many chose to invest in those relationships ahead of time, we were able to respond together when it mattered most.

To WEMA, thank you for your leadership and partnership.

To every church, business, nonprofit, civic organization, and volunteer who stepped forward: this recognition belongs to you, too.
We hope this story encourages other communities to invest in collaboration before the next emergency comes. When we know one another before disaster strikes, we can serve one another far better afterward.

We truly are better together. ❤️

Community resilience isn't built during a disaster. It's built one relationship at a time.
