We had a amazing day of hiking at Delany Creek Park, Labor Day Saturday. It's a great little park with its campground and lake beach area which was very popular with our extreme temps. It's an enjoyable drive through beautiful Indiana's back roads to get there. We came to hike 6 extreme miles of the World famous Knobstone Trail. Because of extreme temps and long distance we had 11 hikers and had a great time climbing those steep hills as we huffed and puffed our way up. Everyone carried extra water and snacks along with bug spray which we needed as we bushwhacked a little as some areas had brush on the trail. We had four first-timers with us, Tyler, Greg, Will and Katie. We think they will be back. Thank you Michele and Annie for leading us and Petra for figuring out the trail, and sweeping with Julie and Yaala. Thanks to Scott for scheduling these hikes. Thanks to Greg and everyone that post pics of our hikes. See you on the next hike!

Another amazing hike with LHC at the Siltstone Trail trailhead of Jefferson Memorial Forest. We had 26 hikers and great weather as we hiked 4 miles up 4-5 steep, challenging hills. Thank you to Yaala for scouting out the trails, and John for leading it. Thank you to our amazing leaders and officers for their knowledge and always keeping us safe. Love hiking this forest with its sweeping rolling hills with good shade from the hot sun and its nice breezes. We saw amazing mushrooms and fungus and the bluish one Yaala said was the Kentucky state mushroom. Even seen this turtle eating some mushroom. And of course the sinking car which our Patriarch of the club, Charles, knows the age of the car but wont tell us. We had a long debated discussion about its age. We do know its really old. (-- And we wish to thank Greg: thank you for the write-up, nailing down this hike, catching the spirit, and for the astounding pictures; more may be added).

Yesterday, thanks to our legendary leader Larry, we went on another new hike he found. We started at the Ohio River Greenway, over to the Falls of the Ohio State Park. Then we hiked north-west through a trail over to The Vista at Origin Park. We took a group picture and said Hi to Pat and Cheryl, we miss you and hope to see you with us soon!!! We meandered around the great mighty river and headed back to the source. What a day! Thank you to Scott, who keeps figuring out new trails, to Petra, who surely will add pictures soon, and to the Officers without whom this wouldn't happen. Best wishes to all, and see you on the next hike!

Rain, ice, snow, cold, heat or a little flooding doesn’t stop the members of Louisville Hiking Club from showing up as long as conditions are safe. We had a fun but very humid and soggy hike Saturday at Cherokee Park. The creek was up and some spots of the trail were water-covered but our expert leaders got us around those areas: thank you Michele and Annie! Petra and Yaala hung back and made sure no one got left behind and that everyone took the right forks on the trail. Afterward, some of the group had southern comfort fried chicken at the Eagle Restaurant - Very delicious. We are blessed to have this club to hike and share some fellowship!

Saturday, July 4th Happy 250 birthday America. We had a day hiking at Morgan Conservation Park in La Grange, KY. It wasn't too hot, but the ticks were hitchhiking on us. Great turnout. We crossed a few creeks, investigated an old failing barn with a couple of bat houses at its top (the two metal piece we saw at the top). Our military guy and forest expert, John, put his ax to work chopping a tree branch out of our path. We finished our hike with lunch at Devilish Wings Bar & Grill, where the wings were heavenly 😇 More pictures may follow. Enjoy our Independence Day!!! (From Greg our official writer in residence, he may add better pictures too)

We had the most beautiful hike at Jefferson Memorial Forest, led by Michele, Annie, and Laura. Weather was perfect. Julie, Petra and Greg took beautiful pictures. As Julie mused: "In every walk with nature, one receives more than he (one) seeks" (John Muir). Always thank you to all, so pleasant to hike together. 💚 We might add more pictures.

We had a special hike at Clifty Falls with the Cincinnati Hiking Club on Kentucky Derby Day. We took the bus, 🚌 arrived at the North Gate, had a pleasant lunch, the sun warming us up. 🌞 We also bet as if we were at Churchill Downs! 🐴 Thanks to Pat for managing the whole event, including the bets! Thank you to Greg, the most reliable sweep, taking pictures as well! 🌿 Thanks to the leaders who made sure it was an enjoyable day for all, each with their own ability. Thank you to the Officers, planning this day in advance. Thank you to all who gave a hand. We finished at the Clifty Inn with a wonderful dinner. See you next time!
