15 days until the start of Field Day 2026!!
June 27&28, 2026
Start 1800 UTC/12pm Saturday-End 2059 UTC/2:59pm Sunday

Pilot K**b Amateur Radio club would like to invite those with interest about amateur radio to stop by the VA Park in Leavenworth to ask questions, see different radio gear and get on the air (GOTA station).

This annual ARRL sponsored event started back in 1933. Amateurs (HAMS) from across North America (2021 over 26,000) participate. It is always the fourth full weekend in June.

We establish temporary radio stations to demonstrate our skill and provide service to the community.

It allows us to use radio signals to reach all over the world, brings people together, while allowing club members to develop and practice skills in radio technology and radio communication.

Hams range in age from as young as 9 to older than 100.

We INVITE you to come visit!

73,
Roxann - KZ0IMO

Field Day. June 27-28.

04/24/2026

April is National County Government Month – To celebrate, Leavenworth County will feature information about every County department.

Featured Department: Leavenworth County Emergency Management

We live in a world where Natural disasters are unfortunately common occurrences. Emergency management aims to support and prepare the community and first responders through resources and training, ensuring they have everything they need to be successful.

In addition, Emergency Management is responsible for serving as the liaison between state and federal agencies and updating the county's Local Emergency Operations Plan and Multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. These plans outline which agencies or departments are responsible for which tasks and the most common threats to Leavenworth County.

Did you know that 80% of Americans lack emergency supplies for a disaster, and that more than half of parents do not have a designated meeting place in case of one?

An important update:

***Effective May 1st, Emergency Management's Emails will change:
Chuck Magaha - [email protected]
Zach Phillips - [email protected]

These emails are currently active and be checked daily.

Be prepared, not scared!

πŸ“» Your phone says β€œNo Signal.” A ham radio operator just saved your life.

When disaster strikes, the systems we rely on every day crumble fast. Cell towers get overloaded or knocked out. Internet goes dark. The power grid fails. In those critical first hours β€” when every minute counts β€” most people are completely cut off.

But not ham radio operators.
While everyone else is staring at a dead phone screen, licensed amateur radio operators are already on the air β€” coordinating rescues, relaying medical information, and connecting isolated communities with emergency services. No cell towers needed. No internet required. Just radio waves and a prepared operator who showed up when it mattered most.
This isn’t just a hobby. It’s a lifeline.
Groups like ARES and RACES deploy ham operators directly alongside first responders during declared emergencies. These are everyday people β€” neighbors, teachers, retirees β€” who made the decision to get licensed and get prepared.

The question is β€” will you be one of them?
Get your license. Build your kit. Join your local emergency comm group. Because when it all goes down, ham radio operators don’t just survive β€” they serve. πŸŽ™οΈ

πŸ“‘ Barry Goldwater (K7UGA)

Barry Morris Goldwater (1909–1998) was a United States Senator from Arizona and one of the most influential political figures of the 20th century. Considered the father of modern conservatism in the U.S., he was the presidential candidate in 1964.

In addition to his political career, Goldwater was a passionate ham radio enthusiast and an active operator with the callsign K7UGA. A staunch advocate for amateur radio, he supported key laws that protected amateur radio antennas and promoted the use of the spectrum for emergency communications. For him, radio was not just a hobby, but a vital public service tool.

His legacy lives on in both American political history and the global amateur radio community. πŸŒŽπŸ“»
