This mission was especially meaningful for Veterans Without Orders.

For the first time, we honored someone who was not a veteran by dedicating a clean water mission in Guatemala to Nancy Metayer. While she may not have worn the uniform, Nancy embodied the same spirit of service, compassion, and selflessness that drives our missions around the world.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Nancy’s family for allowing us to honor her legacy in this way. Because of this mission, over 300 people in Guatemala now have continuous access to clean water for the next 15 years. That means healthier families, fewer waterborne illnesses, and more opportunities for children to thrive.

At VWO, every mission is about more than water. It’s about people, purpose, and carrying forward the legacy of those who made the world better through how they lived.

Because of your support, the SSG Joseph Granville Project in Malawi was able to deliver real, measurable impact.

Over several days, our team served 7 sites across the Lilongwe district and provided:
463 patient consultations
375 WASH buckets distributed
217 children trained in hygiene
6 local train-the-trainer graduates equipped to continue the work

And one stat that really stays with us: each WASH bucket system can provide access to clean water for 3 families.

That means your donations helped put clean water solutions into the hands of hundreds of households across these communities.

This mission was never just about showing up. It was about leaving behind tools, training, and local partnerships that can keep working long after our team returned home. That included hands-on water filtration training, hygiene education for children, clinical care across village and clinic sites, and training local community members to continue WASH education independently.

To everyone who donated, shared, encouraged, and supported this mission: thank you. This is what your generosity made possible.

And we are deeply grateful to our partners on the ground, especially the Kusewera community and Earl Granville whose leadership and coordination made this work possible.

Other partners who this mission would not have been possible without include:
Freshwater Project International for their funding support
Sawyer Products for their generous donation of water filtration systems
Airlink for their donation of flights
Wings 4 Water, for their monetary donation
Health Forward Foundation for their donation of medications that reached families in need

In the wake of her passing, we want to honor Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer and the lasting impact she had on our mission and our team.

This will be the first time VWO is dedicating a mission in honor of someone who was not a veteran.

We first met Nancy in Haiti during our 2015 mission. She was serving with another organization at the time, but she immediately connected with our team. When she returned home, she continued volunteering with us and helped shape many of our early planning documents.

Nancy was close to our hearts. She was an incredible human being who gave her time, energy, and care so generously.

Next week’s GTM mission will be carried out in her honor, and we are proud to recognize the role she played in helping build this work.

🌍💧 SCOUTS + VETS for Clean Water!

Today, members of the Chambo Scout Troop Malawi teamed up with Veterans Without Orders to distribute Sawyer Clean Water Filters to villages surrounding the Kusewera Community Center.

Freshwater Project International is thrilled that three of our partners and friends have joined forces for IMPACT!

On the ground in Malawi, Veterans Without Orders continues to deliver critical medical care, implement clean water systems, and train local communities to sustain these solutions long after the work is done. This is service beyond the uniform—working side-by-side with communities to create lasting, meaningful impact.

We dedicate this mission to SSG Joseph Granville, honoring his legacy through every action taken. With his brother, Earl—a fellow Army veteran—serving alongside the team, this work carries even deeper significance.

This mission to Malawi is in honor of Staff Sergeant Joseph Granville.

Before we go, we always take time to learn about the person we’re honoring so we can carry their story with us.

This week, Joe’s twin brother Earl shared what kind of man Joe was: a devoted soldier, a protector, a proud dad, a sports fan, a music lover, and someone who deeply cared for the people around him.

He was the kind of person who showed up for others.

That’s what makes these moments so meaningful. We’re not just carrying a name. We’re carrying a life, a legacy, and the memory of someone deeply loved.

We’re especially honored that Joe’s twin brother, Earl, and his wife will be joining this mission. Thank you, Earl, for trusting us with Joe’s story.

Joe, we carry you with us. ❤️

Veterans don’t stop serving when the uniform comes off.
This Giving Tuesday, you can help them bring clean, safe drinking water to communities who need it most. 💧💙

This year, thanks to supporters like you, veteran teams deployed on humanitarian missions from North Carolina to Uganda to Malawi — providing clean water solutions, training local operators, and supporting villages that have gone far too long without safe water.

Around the world, 785 million people still lack access to clean drinking water.
But together, we can change that — one community at a time.

Veterans Without Orders is a veteran-led nonprofit focused on sustainable, long-term clean water systems, not temporary fixes. Your Giving Tuesday support helps us:

✨ Install community-scale purification systems
✨ Train local communities so solutions last
✨ Reach more villages that urgently need safe water
✨ Give veterans the chance to serve with purpose again

Every donation makes a difference — truly.

To be a veteran is to have dedicated your life to a purpose greater than yourself. 🇺🇸

At Veterans Without Orders, we believe that purpose doesn’t end with service. Veterans continue their mission through clean water, healthcare, and disaster relief efforts—still serving, still making an impact.
