The Ski Hill Memorial Project

The Ski Hill Memorial Project Friends of Johnny Brenan, Jim Jack, Chris Rudolph, and Daniel Zimmermann and their quest to forever immortalize them in Ski Culture. We know. It is a big goal.

The Friends of Johnny Brenan, Jim Jack, Chris Rudolph, and Daniel Zimmermann have partnered with the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club and The Leavenworth Ski Hill Heritage Foundation to ensure that these guys be immortalized. The Leavenworth Winter Sports Club has managed the Leavenworth Ski Hill since 1928 and is without doubt the coolest little ski club around. The Leavenworth Ski Hill Heritage Fo

undation is a 501c(3) non-profit organization created to fulfill a fundraising role and responsibility for skiing and winter sports programs in Leavenworth and the Northwest. The primary focus is to develop funding sources to keep our ski & winter sports legacy alive and for the purpose of preservation of ski and winter sports heritage. In September 2012 we launched a 24-month campaign to raise $500,000 for the Ski Hill Memorial Project which will include a 2,000 square-foot patio, outdoor restrooms, ski slope upgrades, outdoor amenities and year-round event accommodations. Hey friends this is a long, long overdue post. Our apologies. Your support of the project built a wonderful new addition to the historic ski hill lodge, a wonderful outdoor patio!

This patio was envisioned to bring to life the spirits of Johnny Brenan, Chris Rudolph, Dan Zimmerman, and the legendary Jim Jack. Bringing the community of Leavenworth together to celebrate, recreate and have a great time with friends and family! It has been an incredible success and already has become "the place to be" for our locals.

Thanks so much for your support, please follow the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club page so you know when to come up and have a great time on the patio you built!

Well lookie here.... The Lodge was the place to be last night and it was rockin! Slingshot was killin it as always and brought the community spirit big time. Over$1300 was raised for !!! 🚵🏼‍♀️....................................

It has been 4 Years, 4 Months, and 4 Weeks since we started down the path of memorializing our friends in some manner befitting their character. An addition to our little Ski Hill that would last another 100 years.

This week we put the proverbial shovel in the ground and started laying the foundation for The Patio addition to The Ski Hill Lodge.

First -
Here's to the boys. We hope you appreciate what a pain in the ass this has been. Cheers.

Second -
Thank you Mark Milliette for you perseverance in seeing this through.

Third -
Thank you Dennis McMahon, Strode Construction, The Salcido Connection, Platt Electric, Syndacate Smith, and Stephan Swoboda in the first phase of this work. It's a busy year for anyone in the construction trades and these folks made this a priority.

Stay tuned... for those that want to help out we will have plenty of need for help in the next 3 weeks.

Fall 2015 Project Update

Patiently waiting....... and waiting..... and waiting.....

The promised Environment Analysis is still in progress at the USFS Office here in Leavenworth. We had hopes of getting it this through due process but are quickly loosing faith in our government.

Mark Milliette and members of the LWSC Board met with USFS Wenatchee-Okonagan National Forest Managers this last month to review the lack of progress or communication and how this might reflect on future partnerships and management of the Leavenworth Ski Hill.

Of the $32,000 (Memorial Project Funds) that we deposited with the USFS towards the Environmental Analysis to improve a structure that the USFS owns... $12,438.28 is remaining for processing costs and $3,234.16 remains for monitoring.

We have not received any documentation or communication of what has been completed with your funds but are pushing for a complete accounting and completion of the EA so we can move forth with the project.

All for now. Cheers.

Spring Project Update

Patiently waiting....... and waiting..... and waiting.....

The Environment Analysis is still in progress at the USFS Office here in Leavenworth. We had hopes of getting it this last fall, then in February, then in March....

There has been a lot of turn over of staff at our local USFS office and we seem to be stuck in the proverbial bureaucratic mess.

If anyone knows Tom Tidwell or someone at the top of the USFS we would greatly appreciate a kind word.

In the mean time..... The Ski Hill Mtn Bike trials are off the hook.

Give the volunteers at EvergreenMTB and the leadership of James Munly at Das Rad Haus thanks. Preferably in cash. They are approved for more tails in the greater Ski Hill & Freund Trail System but need money. $5k would complete the loop from Ski Hill to the top of Rosy and let them start on the rebuild of Ribbed.

Cheers !!!

The Ski Hill Memorial Project received $6,100 today from the estate of the late great Scott Wicklund.

Humbly we move on with the project. We hope to have our CE from the USFS this week so that we can begin the updates to electrical and water to the lodge. Preparations for anything that will be buried under a well-built patio.

GREAT NEWS! WE HAVE EQUIPMENT ON SITE AND PHASE 1 BEGINS!

Here are a few pics of the electrical upgrade project, day #1, September 30th 2014.

Thanks to the diligence of Leavenworth Ski Hill General Manager Mark Milliette, the project’s in-ground work started 19 hours after receiving the CE/Decision Memo from the USFS on September 29th!

Our partners on this Phase are: McMahon Excavation, Platt Electric, Beckstead Electric and USFS. A big thank you to the Chelan County PUD or their assistance with the engineering and field expertise.

This Project Phase will bring new 3 phase power and conduit from the landed source near the Ticket Office, to the Big Tow transformer and a new single phase power run in conduit to a new transformer that will serve the Ski Hill Lodge. The new transformer will also have spare conduits to upgrade to 3 phase for future snowmaking. Provisions for fiber will be to all locations. This power upgrade will replace the 40 year old, failing direct burial power. The first 50 ft. from the power source has a number of utilities and existing power feeds to navigate through and under for the new conduit runs. Once outside of this area, there will be fewer obstacles until working near the Lodge.

The Electrical Upgrade is the first project phase for the Ski Hill Memorial Patio Project . The Patio Project is now scheduled to be started in the spring of 2015 after the completion of the USFS Environmental Assessment.
