Friends of Nameless School

Friends of Nameless School We work to preserve the Nameless School house and other structures of the Nameless Community, on Nameless Rd (FM 2243) in northwestern Travis County.

The organization is non-profit and many of the members are from from the immediate area. Many of the member families have lived in the area for many generations and the organization is fortunate enough to have several members publish area and personal history books to ensure the wonderful memories of the area families and the land is preserved. In addition, the members are involved in the area to

provide support to the local volunteer fire department; books for local children. The school is available by appointment to local schools and other organizations who want to experience life in a one room school house. The organization has several fund raising events to provide funding to ensure the physical structure is maintained. One fundraiser is a quilt raffle. Another is a physical event held on the property. Examples include Christmas in Nameless held in 2020 which include the quilt raffle drawing and a silent auction. Monies collected are used to provide building maintenance and donate to the area communities who need assistance. The members meet the 2nd Monday of each month and usually include a guest speaker, author, local artisan who want to share their knowledge and experiences. Guests are welcome. Please contact the School by emailing your interest

8:15 PM - NEW FLASH FLOOD WARNING for NW Travis County until 11 PM. This includes Lago Vista, Jonestown, and Nameless Road.

Rain temporarily shutting of there for now after 3"+ fell in two hours. That's enough to swell creeks/streams/low-water crossings.

You may remember that this was where the "other" flood happened July 4th weekend last year along Big Sandy Creek especially. This is nowhere close to that level of rainfall, and I don't expect those creeks to break their banks in the same fashion. Still, you know the drill up there; things can change quickly and we still have heavy rain potential for the next six hours or so.

For all of us who now pay ever more attention to the rain forecasts--it is raining HARD here in Nameless, and has been for an hour or so.

7:20 PM Update - Flash flooding continues along 183 in Williamson county after 4"+ fell in a few spots in a very short period of time. Thankfully, rainfall rates are much lower there now and we have yet to hear of any significant flooding issues or water rescues. Still, stay off the roads if you can. That flash flood warning continues until 10 PM.

Pockets of heavy rain around Austin have prompted a flood advisory until 11 PM. The short term trend is back to being our friend at the moment with those downpours following an outflow boundary to the west, but we are FAR from out of the woods just yet.

Fresh data continues to be aggressive with new/heavier downpours developing later this evening into the overnight hours along the I-35 corridor, and now that the soil has soaked up plenty of moisture, flash flooding could more quickly materialize.

More updates to come. Long way to go.

I just love these folks!

đźš’đźš’đźš’đźš’ When You Call, the Cavalry Comes.

This photo captures ESD1 apparatus responding to a recent emergency incident—a visual reminder that emergency response is rarely a one-person or one-unit operation.

When you dial 9-1-1, resources are dispatched based on the nature of the emergency. Depending on the call, that may include multiple fire apparatus, EMS units, command staff, and partner agencies working together to provide the highest level of service possible.

Every apparatus and every responder has a purpose, bringing specialized equipment, training, and capabilities to the scene. Whether it’s a medical emergency, fire, rescue, or major incident, our commitment is to ensure the appropriate resources arrive quickly and are ready to go to work.

When you call, the cavalry comes—and we bring the resources needed to get the job done.

Thank you to our community for your continued support and trust in ESD1.

A much needed reprieve from storm chances will continue through this weekend. It comes to an end in June with what is looking like a much more interesting forecast as of this morning.

June 1st is the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season, and right on cue, we **might** have a little Gulf mischief to keep tabs on. I do NOT anticipate a full-blown named storm coming to Texas, but a lil' swirl and enhanced tropical moisture values in the atmosphere could contribute to the return of heavy rain at times next week.

A lot of moving parts that we need to sort out, but this is your "heads up" that some heavy rain opportunities will return on a daily basis next week into next weekend.

I love the title, "From Balconies to Backyards." Many of us enjoy nature--whether it's a micro square of ground in a condo courtyard, or an acre in the country. Nature can lower our blood pressure (except if you encounter it in the middle of the road on a dark night), and raise our spirits.

Just taking the time to look up from whatever it is you're doing and out a window at trees, flowers, birds, offers a break in daily stress and tension.

Spend some time in nature today. ❤️
