The process of neuroception (the subconscious detection of safety and threat) determines how humans react to the environment, including others around them. One of the most salient features of human emotional communication is vocal tone. All parents/caregivers experience stress. If you are feeling upset or dysregulated, the most self- compassionate thing to do is to take a moment to feel better before interacting. Even micro moments of awareness & compassionate help❣️

This is how I spent time yesterday building connection with Styx.
Just watching him eat. From the other side of the round bale. Taking time to be present in the same space. Noticing him. Hearing him chew. Letting him notice me.
I wouldn’t say we are best friends but we are working on it.
I think this gets skipped a lot in relationship. The noticing stage. We are always in such a hurry to be in deep, meaningful relationship that we rush past some of the most simple connection building time and activities. I can’t wait to see his personality develop as I continue noticing him and creating a safe space for us both ❤️
