For Austin-area families:

The director of the CDC has signed off on the agency's recommendation that all kids ages 5 to 11 get Pfizer's COVID vaccine.

The final regulatory hurdle clears the way for approximately 28 million children in the age group to get the shot, with shots beginning as soon as tomorrow — though it may be a few days before the vaccine is widely available.

Shipments of the vaccine already started after last Friday's decision by the FDA to authorize the vaccine for the age group. The White House's COVID response coordinator, Jeffrey Zients, said the federal government has purchased enough of the low-dose children's vaccine for everyone. The federal distribution program "will be fully operational" by Monday, Nov. 8th.

Justice Department Addresses Violent Threats Against School Officials and Teachers

"Threats of violence against school board members, officials, and workers in our nation’s public schools can be reported by the public to the FBI’s National Threat Operations Center (NTOC) via its national tip line (1-800-CALL-FBI) and online through the FBI website (http://fbi.gov/tips). To ensure that threats are communicated to the appropriate authorities, NTOC will direct credible threats to FBI field offices, for coordination with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and law enforcement partners as appropriate. Reporting threats of violence through NTOC will help the federal government identify increased threats in specific jurisdictions as well as coordinated widespread efforts to intimidate educators and education workers."

Citing an increase in harassment, intimidation and threats of violence against school board members, teachers and workers in our nation’s public schools, today Attorney General Merrick B. Garland directed the FBI and U.S. Attorneys’ Offices to meet in the next 30 days with federal, state, tribal...

Multiple people ejected from Leander ISD meeting for incivility. Also, none were wearing masks. Thank you Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Board President Trish Bode for Leander ISD Board of Trustees, Place 1, Board Members (Aaron Johnson for LISD, Place 6, Elexis Grimes, Dr. Gloria Gonzales-Dholakia, Christine Mauer LISD Place 3, Anna Smith, Leander ISD Board of Trustee - Place 4, & Jim MacKay) and staff for your service. Everyone deserves to be heard at Board meetings, but no one should be able to dominate, heckle, or block the line of site of others. Next stop, enforce Leander ISD's mask requirement for these meetings. Masked attendees have been the civil attendees.

FUSS Leander is deeply concerned by these theatrics that bring down the meeting rather than enhance it.

"How many is too many? What’s an acceptable mortality rate?...What number of child COVID deaths is acceptable for school leaders and trustees to ignore the loud and obnoxious astro-turfing parents & Gov. Abbott’s toothless dictates and implement a no-opt-out mask mandate?" 📣 📣 Leander ISD, Superintendent Bruce Gearing, Trustees: Trish Bode for Leander ISD Board of Trustees, Place 1 Aaron Johnson for LISD, Place 6 Elexis Grimes Jim MacKay Anna Smith, Leander ISD Board of Trustee - Place 4 Dr. Gloria Gonzales-Dholakia Christine Mauer LISD Place 3

There’s a question that rattles around my brain pan and the possible answers to it disappoint me. How many is too many? What’s an acceptable mortality rate?
