Former Science Center of Pinellas County named a Florida Heritage Site 🏛️

Founded in 1953 by retired realtor William Guild, the center opened its doors in 1966 and welcomed students for nearly 50 years — home to Tampa Bay's first computer lab for schoolchildren, a planetarium run by the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club, and a life-sized replica of a 16th century Tocobaga village. More than 250,000 students passed through before it closed in 2014.

Now its story will live on through a Florida Historical Marker, sponsored by the St. Petersburg Foundation and the Florida Department of State. The marker was approved through the Florida Historical Marker Program, which honors places central to the state's history.

Each year when we start planning STEAM Day at the Lealman Exchange, our first call is to Seniors in Service of Tampa Bay, Inc..

For the 4th year, they answered our call with the best group of volunteer grandparents to help us keep our growing STEAM Day an incredible event for Lealman youth!

Today was the 4th Annual Lealman STEAM Day at the Lealman Exchange, and we are grateful for every organization that joined us to make it happen.

Lealman families and kids spent the day moving through FREE, hands-on stations covering science, technology, engineering, art and math. Thank you to the community organizations who brought their time, expertise and energy to give Lealman youth a day of real, hands-on learning close to home.

Days like this happen because our partners keep showing up for this community, year after year. We are proud to host STEAM Day at the Lealman Exchange and grateful to everyone who made today possible.
