Former Science Center of Pinellas County named a Florida Heritage Site ποΈ
Founded in 1953 by retired realtor William Guild, the center opened its doors in 1966 and welcomed students for nearly 50 years β home to Tampa Bay's first computer lab for schoolchildren, a planetarium run by the St. Petersburg Astronomy Club, and a life-sized replica of a 16th century Tocobaga village. More than 250,000 students passed through before it closed in 2014.
Now its story will live on through a Florida Historical Marker, sponsored by the St. Petersburg Foundation and the Florida Department of State. The marker was approved through the Florida Historical Marker Program, which honors places central to the state's history.
