Last night, the Canyon received a steady light rain. Campers and staff remain safe.

And here’s the best news: Staff inspected River Road this morning, and it is officially reopened.

Rest assured, we will still be vigilantly monitoring the weather. You can check our weather updates at https://hebfdn.org/prayers-kerr-county/

“How can we feel safe again?”

When disaster strikes, it’s hard to know what to say or do. It’s even harder to explain to children.

Join us this Thursday for a special webinar with disaster psychologist Dr. Jamie Aten, founder of Spiritual First Aid. Learn how to care for children emotionally and spiritually after traumatic events—like the recent floods that affected the camping community.

Emotional and Spiritual First Aid for Families: When children asks the hard questions—about safety, loss, or God—what do you say?

We are in shock. So many people in our community—friends, family, our staff, Canyon guests, and particularly our camping friends along the Guadalupe—are affected by this flooding tragedy.

Many are asking about the best way to support right now. We’ve been working with community partners in the region. The best way to help right now is giving to the following organizations. Please join us in supporting their work.

Please continue to pray for Camp Mystic, Heart of the Hills, and all of the families and camps in the Texas Hill Country that experienced floods and flashfloods.

We opened River Road this morning, and we continue to watch the weather closely.

At LLYC, everyone is safe. Echo Valley and Singing Hills remain stocked with plenty of food and water. All campsites have power. Every camper has a warm and dry bed. All waterfronts are closed and are not being used. But camp continues—campers are playing games and engaging with each other and counselors.

At Laity Lodge Family Camp, families from the current session will be leaving later this morning at the regularly scheduled time, and we will prepare Headwaters for the next session as usual. If you are registered for the next session of family camp, please keep your plans to join us on time tomorrow.

Yesterday and today, a severe rainstorm caused flooding along the Guadalupe River, Frio River, and other rivers in the Texas Hill Country. The H. E. Butt Foundation implemented “shelter in place” procedures for Echo Valley, Singing Hills, and Headwaters. All of our camps have adequate food, water, and beds.

All campers and staff in the Frio Canyon are safe. We will continue to make sure the campers and staff are kept out of the river at a safe distance. We are in touch with camp staff who were out of the Canyon on their days off to let them know when they can return to camp.

We closed River Road early in the day out of an abundance of caution before flood waters began to rise. We will keep the roads closed by chain until the flood waters recede. As of 4 p.m. on July 4, the river level is receding rapidly. Our top leaders on site will continue to monitor storms that may affect our river level. We will continue to update our website if anything changes.

Please join us in praying for the families and camps along the Guadalupe River that experienced flash floods last night.

We’re praying for camps along the Guadalupe and everyone in Kerrville, Ingram, and Hunt impacted by the flooding.
Note to parents: The Frio River is not affected by the water flowing through the Guadalupe. All campsites in the Canyon are in good shape, and the River Road remains accessible and open.
We are monitoring conditions and will post further updates as needed to our website: https://hebfdn.org/prayers-kerr-county/.
