TCMPA has been working tirelessly, with morals, values, ethics and professionalism to try and rectify issues in a very fractured agency. Insane turnover... Staffing, retaliation, never thought things would REALLY be like this in an agency. Speak to their members and board, hear the issues...VOTE and support them so they can protect their citizens without unnecessary concerns looming over them. A unified agency, dept and city administration can do amazing things for citizens. Thankfully LCPOA has had positive relations with both city and dept admin over the last several years, and supportive citizens. It makes a difference!! And actually, it's not difficult to achieve. Open ears. No ego or power struggles. Just communication with the similar goals in mind for the welfare of the city, as it should be.... TCMPA, we support you! (We have a sweet lateral too, just saying)

Thank you as always for your supportive comments welcoming our newest officers. We are fortunate and greatly appreciate the backing of our amazing citizens and neighbors. LCPD is a great place to work and y'all are so huge in making this a great city to do the job in.

Last week LCPD Chief Woitena held a swearing-in ceremony for the two newest LCPD officers.

Please welcome and congratulate Officer Trenton Mitchell and Officer Marco Hernandez. Both of these officers are lateral transfers with law enforcement experience. They will take part in a modified Field Training Program and join the Patrol Division thereafter.

Welcome to our department and our wonderful League City community!!

Nice to still see some around town.. y'all drive safe and keep an eye out.

Huge thanks to Amoco Federal Credit Union, Kevin Venable, League City Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and especially South Shore Grille for the sponsorship and provision of the 2025 LCPD Christmas luncheon. Lots of retirees and great food to celebrate Christmas with the blue family.

Lt Cox served his communities and his nation in several uniforms. Definitely a legacy of service, hard work and crime fighting. K9s in this area just would not be what they are had Eric not poured his heart and soul into the programs. Eric leaves behind a large family, both blood and blue. Please keep all in your prayers as we prepare to lay Lt Cox to rest. RIP Lt, we'll take it from here.

It is with great sadness that the League City Police Department announces the passing of Lieutenant Eric Cox, who died on the morning of December 1, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Eric was born on September 5, 1974, in Texas City, Texas, to Cheryl Lynette Ravey and Terry Wayne Cox.

Eric’s dedication to public service began early. While still in high school, he served as a volunteer firefighter. As graduation approached, he chose to continue serving others by joining the United States Navy, becoming a Corpsman assigned to the Fleet Marine Force. His service earned him the respected and affectionate title of “Devil Doc” among the Marines he supported. After completing his Navy service honorably, Eric continued his commitment to public safety as a Galveston County Sheriff’s Deputy and later as a Galveston Police Officer. In 2006, he returned to his firefighting roots by joining the Houston Fire Department.

In January 2008, Eric joined the League City Police Department as a patrol officer. As he advanced in his career, he took it upon himself to revive the LCPD K9 Program, laying the foundation for the successful and respected program that exists today. His passion for the work, and for his K9 partner, Pako, was evident to all who knew him.

Eric was promoted to Sergeant in August 2015, where he supervised both a patrol district and the K9 Unit. In June 2018, he rose to the rank of Lieutenant, serving first as a Watch Commander, then as Lieutenant over the Criminal Investigations Division, and later as Lieutenant of the Office of Professional Standards.

Eric was a steady presence, a loyal friend, a devoted partner to his K9, and above all, a loving husband and father. He will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Marie Cox, and his three children: Tristan, Wyatt, and Nina. He is also survived by his mother, Cheryl Young, and her husband Duane; and his father, Terry Cox, and his wife Delia.

Funeral Services and Honors for Lt Eric Cox will be held on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Grace Church Houston, 14505 Gulf Fwy, Houston, TX 77034. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the League City Police Officers’ Association (555 W. Walker St., c/o LCPOA, League City, TX 77573).
