Happy New Year!! I know it’s been awhile since we’ve posted anything on here so, I wanted to take the time to give a little update. There is a lot of information so please read through it all.

We’ve been working with the case manager, Kayla, from Galveston County Long Term Recovery (GCLTR). She has been working with residents in our neighborhood and accessing the needs and work that still needs to be done. I’m excited to say that one house has just completed one house and they are currently moving in. She is currently getting an estimate to start another. She is helping one resident re-apply for FEMA so that they can start on that house and working with other residents as well. Kayla was able to help one resident with unmet needs to get them the furniture they desperately needed.

We talked to Gloria Dei when they came out to our neighborhood; they were excited to know that we had been working to get help for our fellow neighbors. We are currently working to set up a meeting between Kayla from GCLTR and Gloria Dei to put forth a plan to see where Gloria Dei and our community to help in areas where GCLTR cannot.

It’s our goal that as soon as we have a plan and we can get that information out, we can ask the residents here in Bayridge to help our neighbors so they can get back home as quickly as possible.

Last but not least, some of you may have heard that the Red Cross has been giving out additional Harvey assistance. One for $2,000 and one for $4,500. Each option has a certain criteria to meet and currently the only way to apply to the Red Cross for these additional funds is thru Kayla, our Case Manager. Please be sure to reach out to us so that we can get you in contact with Kayla right away to get the process started.

We met with our Case Manager, Kayla, from Galveston County Long Term Recovery who will be working with our group directly. We gave her our list of residents we interviewed. Kayla will be starting cases on those who we have identified so far needing help and will be contacting the residents in need as soon as she can.

We will be working as a team to get this going and completed. So please reach out to us and let us know if you need any assistance or if you have needs that haven't been met.

We are so happy to be working with Galveston County Long Term Recovery.

While locating neighbors that need help, we located a 94 yr old WWII vet and his daughter working hard to get back home where she can care for him.

Thru our teamwork, Galveston County Long Term Recovery is coordinating help and expediting help to bring home quickly as possible.

There are others still struggling in Bayridge trying to put their house and lives back together. Let's band together and help our neighbors!!

09/14/2018

There are several homes in Bayridge that are signed up with 8 Days of Hope, which will start in just one month, October 13th thru the 20th. We were able to locate 2 of them when we went out to meet with neighbors that still needed help so we are trying to locate the other homes that have signed up. If you’ve signed up with 8 Days of Hope, please contact us as soon as possible and let us know whether you still need help or you’ve completed your home and no longer need their help. They are no longer accepting homes, but we are looking to recruit volunteers from our neighborhood to help 8 Days of Hope complete the homes registered in Bayridge.

Did you know that there is a 94 WWII vet that has been displaced out of Bayridge for the past year??

He is one of our new reasons we started Bayridge Recovery, was to help our neighbors who need help.

UPDATE!!!!
We spoke with Gaveston Long Term Recovery and they are coordinating with other groups to get them immediate help. So grateful and I hope he gets to get home soon!!

Whew, What a busy day! We had a great crew to canvas the neighborhood talking to our neighbors who still need help after Harvey. It’s hard to know that such sweet hardworking neighbors are still struggling and working hard to get back home.

We were able to reach almost everyone on our list to the ones that were not home, we’ll come back by this week.

Galveston County Long Term Recovery is so excited to be working with us they have hired an assessor to be working directly with us to help and guide us in every way they can. I’m so proud of Bayridge Recovery and what we’ve accomplished.

I would like to thank everyone who has helped so far, we couldn’t do this without you!!

Bayridge Recovery Project

It’s been a year and Bayridge has come so far!! Many are back in their homes and getting back to normal. Others are still struggling, either from bad contractors, no insurance, or don’t really know where to get help.

We have canvased the neighborhood and have located several homes and families working hard to get back home, but need help. Our mission is to work as a community to help them.

Our group has already made great strides in working closely with Galveston Long Term Recovery to help us with this project and they are very excited to be working with us. A website will be available soon.

Bayridge Recovery is currently looking for volunteers to help these families.
