Vonnies Voice

Vonnies Voice Non profit organization. Raising awareness about Stalking. On July 7, 2010, an unimaginable tragedy occurred in the small community of Leadville, Colorado.

Yvonne “Vonnie” Flores wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, colleague and educator was brutally murdered in her own driveway by a man who lived next door to her and had been stalking her for five years. She had filed a restraining order, yet continually lived in fear and worried about her safety. Nothing was done to protect her. Vonnie was always happy and had a smile on her face. She was th

e most caring, thoughtful individual and well-loved by everyone. Our community still mourns her loss and we cannot let this happen again. Our objective is to raise awareness of and strengthen the current stalking laws and to give stalking victims like Vonnie, a voice.

As in adult relationships, many teens experience stalking as part of their intimate partner violence victimization. Adolescents deserve privacy, safety, and respect from their partners as they navigate early romantic relationships. When discussing boundaries, consent, healthy relationships and/or teen dating violence, be sure to incorporate education!

Please share this property and proposal.. we need help! Thanks

This home sale funds crisis hotlines, emergency shelter, and legal advocacy for Lake County survivors.

Let's be direct: Advocates of Lake County is fighting for survival. Federal funding cuts are forcing impossible decisions for rural nonprofits like ours. Cut staff? Reduce hotline hours? Turn away survivors who need shelter?

None of these are acceptable.

Instead, we're leveraging an asset we own—this exceptional Leadville property—to create funding that sustains our mission when government support evaporates.

The Property: 501 E 12th Street
• 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, 3,388 sq ft
• Contemporary build (2009), excellent condition
• Three offices, finished basement with wet bar, two attic rooms, enclosed porch
• Massive 0.58-acre in-town lot with room to build garage
• Mountain and city views, Mineral Belt Trail access
• R-2 zoning with flexible use options
• $899,000 | MLS 2429869

The Reality: Rural domestic violence services are chronically underfunded. When federal money disappears, survivors in small mountain communities lose access to crisis support, safe housing, and advocacy that can mean the difference between escaping abuse and returning to danger.

The Ask:
• Front Range buyers: Consider a home purchase that matters beyond square footage
• Lake County community: Share this widely. Your networks might include the perfect buyer.

Every share increases the chance we find someone who wants mountain living and believes survivors deserve support.

Too often, we criticize victim behavior instead of putting the blame where it rightfully belongs: on the stalker. While safety planning and risk reduction can be practical for victims, nothing that a victim does – or does not do – makes them responsible for the stalker’s decision to stalk.

Stalkers often go to great lengths to exert power and control over their victims – including threatening and harming others that the victim cares about. For many stalking victims, the fear doesn’t stop at their personal safety. Victims with children in the home are at particular risk – learn more about navigating supervised visitation and exchange program with our guide developed with Inspire Action for Social Change:https://www.stalkingawareness.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/09/SPARC-Inspire-Supervised-Visitation-Safe-Exchange-Guide.pdf

Interested in helping victims/survivors? Come look at this property in Leadville Co. it’s a great investment and you’d be helping a lot of people in our community.

$899K for this Leadville home = 24/7 crisis support for survivors throughout Lake County.

Let's talk about what's at stake.

Federal funding cuts threaten to dismantle rural domestic violence services across Colorado and the country.

Advocates of Lake County faces a funding cliff that could force us to:
• Reduce our 24/7 crisis hotline hours
• Limit emergency response capacity
• Cut legal advocacy services
• Scale back prevention programs

Meanwhile, domestic violence doesn't stop. Sexual assault doesn't take budget cuts into consideration. Survivors in crisis still need immediate help, safe housing, and someone in their corner when facing their abuser in court.

Our solution: Convert this property into sustainable program funding.

501 E 12th Street is exactly what serious buyers want:
✓ 5-bedroom, 3.5-bath contemporary (2009 build)
✓ 3,388 finished sq ft designed for modern mountain living
✓ Three dedicated offices (remote work dream)
✓ Finished basement, attic spaces, enclosed porch
✓ 0.58-acre lot in town—space for garage, gardens, privacy
✓ Mountain views + direct Mineral Belt Trail access
✓ R-2 zoning with flexible use possibilities

This home is priced at $899,000 (just reduced from $925K) and represents funding security for vulnerable community members when government fails them.

URGENT ASK:

Lake County locals: We need your help reaching buyers. Share this post. Tag friends on the Front Range looking for mountain property. Send the link to coworkers considering Leadville. Your share might connect us with the buyer who ensures survivors have somewhere safe to go.

Potential buyers: Tour this property knowing you're not just investing in real estate—you're investing in community safety.

Victims often receive advice to radically alter their daily lives to stop the stalking. This can place the burden on victims to keep themselves safe and minimize accountability for stalking offenders. Resources on risk assessment and safety planning in stalking cases are available at https://www.stalkingawareness.org/risk-and-safety/.
