Vonnies Voice

Vonnies Voice Non profit organization. Raising awareness about Stalking. On July 7, 2010, an unimaginable tragedy occurred in the small community of Leadville, Colorado.

Yvonne “Vonnie” Flores wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, colleague and educator was brutally murdered in her own driveway by a man who lived next door to her and had been stalking her for five years. She had filed a restraining order, yet continually lived in fear and worried about her safety. Nothing was done to protect her. Vonnie was always happy and had a smile on her face. She was th

e most caring, thoughtful individual and well-loved by everyone. Our community still mourns her loss and we cannot let this happen again. Our objective is to raise awareness of and strengthen the current stalking laws and to give stalking victims like Vonnie, a voice.

July 7, 2010 Vonnie Flores was gunned down by a stalker in her own driveway. Today marks 16 years. Since then we have fought to strengthen the former stalking laws and did just That! They named the new stalking law Vonnies Law. Stalking is real! Vonnie had a man, a neighbor she hardly knew, just start following her. After 5 years years Vonnies family urged her to put a restraining order on him as he was becoming more and more agitated. He shot and killed her days before the the RO court and then killed himself. This horrible act changed many lives forever. Please please if you know someone who is being stalked please listen, help and do whatever you can for them. We didn't know about stalking then. is key. Contact your local advocates or police department. Stalking is not love. Please send love our way at 8:18 pm MST. We will always remember Vonnie, she was a beautiful, giving, loving human being. She is missed every single day!!

Stalking victims need help, but few know how or where to ask. Domestic violence and sexual assault services are often the best place to start, and stalking survivors are usually eligible for the same services and resources that domestic violence victims are (especially federally- and state-funded services). Even if the stalker is/was not an intimate partner (for example, the stalker is a neighbor, estranged friend, or stranger), many domestic violence service providers will work with victims of stalking. SPARC provides training and resources to better equip local agencies to assist stalking survivors -- just check out our website to request a training!

As in adult relationships, many teens experience stalking as part of their intimate partner violence victimization. Adolescents deserve privacy, safety, and respect from their partners as they navigate early romantic relationships. When discussing boundaries, consent, healthy relationships and/or teen dating violence, be sure to incorporate education!
