MorningStar Retreat Center

MorningStar Retreat Center MorningStar offers contemplative space for individuals and small groups seeking rest and reflection in the presence of nature.

"MorningStar is a contemplative space where action and assumptions can be suspended long enough to pay attention to what IS. Such a space inspires change and creativity." Julie Keefer, founder

MorningStar is located 20 miles south of Cadillac on 135 acres of wild land that consists of a picturesque winding creek, pine and spruce stands, hardwood forests, open fields, wetlands, walking trails, lab

yrinths, medicine wheel, and gardens. The White Pine Biking and Hiking Trail sits adjacent to the land. MorningStar is…
-A place that encourages conscious connection with the interconnected web of life.
-A place of re-membering who we are as created in the image of the Divine.
-A place of community where diversity is valued.
-A place of wilderness for remembering natural rhythms.
-A place of empowerment for singing the soul’s unique song out into the world.
-A place to freely explore who we are without judgement.
-A place to acknowledge our roots and claim what fits and release what does not.
-A place where mind / body / spirit are encouraged to reunite.
-A place of exploring new ways of perceiving reality.
-A place of empowerment for just and loving action in the world.

May we introduce a board member with endless talents?
Drumroll please.... it's DAWN! We are so lucky to have her, and hope you enjoy reading about her history and encouragement for first time visitors below.

In Dawn's words:
"I first learned about MorningStar about 15 years ago through a dear friend and longtime retreatant. My favorite memory of the land is really twofold. First, I have always felt comfort, safety, and a deep sense of spiritual welcome there. Each time I arrive, I feel held by her, as if she is whispering, “Welcome home, sweet child.” Second, whenever I feel lost, overwhelmed, sad, or in need of comfort, I return home to MorningStar and allow her spirit to steady me.
My favorite season to retreat at MorningStar is probably fall, though I also love the sacred quiet of winter, when everything feels still, peaceful, and deeply present. I used to visit around the new year to reflect on the year behind me and set meaningful intentions and goals for the year ahead.
My motivation for serving on the board comes from a deep sense of calling to protect MorningStar and help ensure she thrives for generations to come. The world needs more places like her, and I want to help preserve and share the wisdom, peace, and sacred refuge she offers to each new generation.
The advice I would give a first-time retreatant is to be patient with yourself, stay open-minded, and allow yourself to receive whatever MorningStar has to offer you. Find your peace in your own way. The land provides many tools to help guide that journey, and the cabins include supportive literature that can offer additional ideas, reflection, and inspiration.
MorningStar is a place to be held by love, a place to find parts of you that may have been lost, a place to find peace. I feel that she may be one of few places that truly will always lovingly hold space for you."

MorningStar wishes you a wonderful blooming season ♥️

In stillness, we begin to come home to ourselves—to the quiet wisdom of the heart, the mind, the soul, and the living world around us. Here, among the gentle rhythms of nature, life’s tangles begin to soften, and space opens for clarity, peace, and renewal.

We welcome you to share in this quiet return here at MorningStar. ♥️
