Established as a beacon of hope and support, the Community Action Partnership of Utah (CAP Utah) has been dedicated to eradicating poverty in the state since its founding in 1994. As the statewide association for Utah's Community Action Agencies, our mission is to lead, strengthen, and support these agencies, ensuring they have the resources and backing to effectively serve low-income families and

individuals across Utah. Our Role: CAP Utah plays a pivotal role in the fight against poverty. While we don't often offer direct services to individuals, we empower the agencies that do. By providing them with training, resources, and advocacy, we ensure they can effectively assist those in need. Agencies We Support:

Get involved to help Utah families transition to back to school!

🎒 Donate school supplies and tech, such as your old laptop to local school districts.

Back to School Series Part 2: Resources and Supplies!

Back-to-school season is exciting, but for many families, it also brings financial stress. School supplies can quickly add up, leaving parents to choose between essentials and the tools their children need to succeed in the classroom.

That's where donation drives come into play. Something as simple as a backpack, notebooks, pencils, or even a new pair of headphones can help a child walk into their first day feeling confident, prepared, and ready to learn.

These small acts of generosity make a lasting impact on students and families throughout our community.

The Benefits Cliff occurs when an increase in earnings triggers an abrupt and complete loss of government public assistance benefits.

Because the value of the lost benefits is often much higher than the small bump in wages, the household ends up financially worse off despite making more money.

This isn’t a personal issue. The Benefits Cliff is a systematic problem that can perpetuate poverty cycles even when the person is working hard and increasing their income.

For example, adults in poverty are 3x more likely to experience limitations due to chronic illness than those with higher incomes. Losing benefits to health care because of a small pay increase and then having to pay out of pocket or for more expensive insurance can make it even more difficult to combat the cycle of poverty.

If you need help navigating the complexities of finances or to learn more, CAP Utah empowers local agencies to eradicate poverty by offering training, expanding program capacity, and advocating for low-income families.

If you or someone you know is experiencing poverty and doesn’t know where to turn, help is closer than you think.

Dial 211 to connect with local resources across Utah, or reach out directly to your nearest Community Action Agency. CAAs provide support with housing, food, utilities, childcare, job training, and more—no wrong door, no judgment.

Watch for the number of your local agency and take the first step toward getting the support you deserve.

Meet SERDA-the Southeastern Regional Development Agency serving Carbon, Emery, Grand, and San Juan Counties across southeastern Utah.

SERDA does something powerful: they strengthen entire communities by addressing multiple needs at once. Families can access emergency food through food banks, get help with heating costs through HEAT, receive home repairs through their rehabilitation programs, and connect with job training and economic development support. Seniors have access to eight senior centers with meals, healthcare navigation, and community programming.

In rural communities where services are spread thin, SERDA coordinates across four counties to ensure families and individuals have access to resources they need from housing stability, food security, utility assistance, or pathways to economic mobility.

At CAP Utah, we're proud to support SERDA and the critical work they do across southeastern Utah.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2024 American Community Survey, 286,600 Utahns are living in poverty. Swipe to put that number in perspective.
