"At first I thought that Mindfulness was the mighty conqueror come to save me from myself, ready to vanquish all my problems away.

I came to learn that my first impression was quite wrong.

Mindfulness is way more powerful. It showed me how to accept my problems, how to let them sit with me in an observable way without passing judgment and it taught me how to love and accept myself. I had started to lose touch with reality even to the point where I questioned my own existence. Mindfulness showed me that I am very real, that the things I experience on a daily basis coexist with myself, in the moment, always changing. I learned that by mentally extending well wishes to others, whoever they are, that I myself change to become a better person.

Mindfulness showed me many things but most importantly, I no longer need a mighty vanquisher because I have learned to be at peace with myself and that is more beautiful than the war I was expecting to wage."

How We Got Started

In 2014, after recognizing a growing trend of adults requesting services for anxiety and depression, Davis Behavioral Health (DBH) began offering Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), an evidence-based educational delivery of mindfulness to adults in the community to address this trend as part of its Prevention & Education programming

As the mindfulness-related prevention efforts in Davis County have grown, DBH has recognized the need for a dedicated space for the community to gather for evidenced-based classes, workshops on a variety of topics, and support groups. With deep gratitude to a generous private donor, we have been able to move forward with establishing the Davis Mindfulness Center. We envision this Center as a community-driven, community-supported effort–a place to come to experience the support and nourishment of being in community.
