WHEN DID A FOSTER DOG STOP BEING URGENT?
Serious question for the rescue community and the public:
What happens to “URGENT” dogs after they’re saved?
When a dog has hours left, people flood the comments, tag rescues, and beg for help.
A rescue steps up.
The dog leaves the shelter.
And the urgency… disappears.
But not for the rescue or foster.
That dog may wait 6 months, a year, even two years for a home. During that time, the rescue covers everything food, vet care, meds, training, transport, supplies, and every unexpected cost of keeping that dog safe.
Saving a dog is step one. Finding a home is the finish line.
We need the public to stay engaged after the save.
Share adoption posts. Not just into rescue circles send them to friends, coworkers, family, community groups. Tag partner rescues. Show up at events. Volunteer. Donate. Sponsor vet care. Talk about foster dogs.
Because something is broken when thousands rally to save a dog with hours left, then that same dog becomes invisible once a rescue takes responsibility.
The dog is still urgent.
Only the location changed.
The need did not.
When rescues carry that burden alone for months or years, burnout happens, finances collapse, fosters quit, intake stops and rescues close.
Then people ask why the next urgent dog can’t be saved.
Rescue is not a handoff.
It’s a partnership! shelters, rescues, fosters, adopters, volunteers, donors, and the community.
If we want rescues to keep saying YES, we have to keep showing up for the dogs they already saved.
Please don’t forget the foster dogs.
They were urgent yesterday.
They still matter today.
Each one of these Bully Breeds were urgently in need when we said yes while facing euthanasia. These kind hearted people who have them stepped up and said yes!
They are all still very urgent and need permanent homes!
