Lawton, Getting Ahead

The Salvation Army in Lawton holds “Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin'-By World” (DeVol) as part of it’s Bridges Out of Poverty initiative. This 18-20 week program provides individuals living at or below 200% Federal Poverty Guidelines with an opportunity to evaluate and build personal resources. Participants investigate resources, generational poverty, the hidden rules of class and the community as a group in order to create their own future story. The “Getting Ahead” program director is an employee of The Salvation Army. Classes are facilitated and sponsored by local organizations and individuals to promote community collaboration across various sectors representing 11 resource areas.
