Today, LT Van Waveren, FF/EMT Gantt, and FF Romo had the honor of representing Valley View Volunteer Fire Department at the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Oklahoma City.

They climbed 110 floors in full bunker gear, SCBA, and hose packs in remembrance of the 343 FDNY firefighters, 37 PAPD officers, 23 NYPD officers, 1 NYFP officer, and 8 EMS personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

FF Romo’s wife and LT Van Waveren’s daughter also joined the climb this year, honoring the brave citizens aboard United Flight 93, United Flight 175, American Flight 11, and American Flight 77 who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Our Valley View firefighters had the privilege of carrying the names and climbing in honor of:

FF Terrence Farrell — Rescue 4
FF Paul Pansini — Engine 10
FF Gerard Schrang — Rescue 3

We climb because they climbed. We remember because their sacrifice must never be forgotten.
