Psi Upsilon Chapter - Omega Psi Phi

Psi Upsilon Chapter - Omega Psi Phi The Psi Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity serves the Lawton/Ft. Sill community, Cameron University and surrounding areas in SW Oklahoma.

During the Early winter of 1951 a group of brothers, who were outstanding in civic, social and business circles in Lawton were socializing informally. During their social gathering, one of the brothers suggested that what Lawton needed was a chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. After agreeing that this was one of the most vital needs, they scheduled a meeting in the office of the principal of Doug

lass High School, H.L. Shegog I, to formalize procedures for establishing a chapter. Brother Shegog was initiated through Phi Psi chapter, Langston University, Langston, Oklahoma. By March of 1952, all forms requesting a chapter had been mailed to the national office. Other members were John H. Nelson, Clarence R. Shaw and Albert Johnson, all of whom wee initiated through Theta Psi Chapter, West Virginia State College, Institute, West Virginia; Dorsey C. Lewis who was initiated through Mu Gamma Chapter, Bishop College, this was located in Marshall, Texas at that time; Quay F. Barfield, initiated through Phi Psi Chapter, and L.W. Presley (deceased) who was initiated through Rho Iota Chapter, Muskogee; and P.W. Sawyer (deceased) who was initiated through Psi Upsilon Chapter to make the ninth member. The charter was received as a graduate chapter and dated July 5, 1952, with the seat in Lawton. The installation ceremony was conducted at 4:00pm, August 10, 1952 by the late F. Rivers Barnwell, Ninth District Representative, in the East Clubroom of the U.S.O (now known as Patterson Community Center), 4 East Arlington Avenue.

Members of the Psi Upsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., along with their family members, proudly supported the Menes Shrine Temple #32 Annual Diabetes Walk held in Lawton, Oklahoma. The chapter participated in the community event by walking alongside local residents and organizations to help raise awareness about diabetes and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Diabetes awareness and education remain one of the chapter’s annual health initiatives and community outreach priorities. Through events such as this walk, the chapter continues its commitment to promoting health, wellness, and service throughout the Lawton/Fort Sill community.

While everyone may not personally suffer from diabetes, the disease continues to impact millions of families across the nation. As the saying goes, “You may not have diabetes, but you know someone who does.” The event served as an important reminder of the need for education, prevention, early detection, and community support in the fight against diabetes.
Psi Upsilon Chapter extends its appreciation to Menes Shrine Temple #32 for hosting another successful event and thanks all participants, supporters, and volunteers who came together in support of a healthier tomorrow.
