About Us
Diaspora Sister Cities Initiative (DSCI) is a volunteer group of ordinary citizens who, with the support of our local elected officials, form long-term relationships with people and organizations in a city abroad. We are an independent organization and pursue the activities and thematic areas that are important to us and our community including municipal, business and trade, educational a
nd cultural exchanges with our partners. Diaspora Sister Cities Initiative promotes peace through people-to-people relationships—with program offerings varying greatly from basic cultural exchange programs to shared research and development projects between cities with relationships. Our Vision:
• Establish a new network sister relationship for most, if not all Liberian cities and institutions.
• Establish a formidable enterprise to facilitate and buttress the efforts of all sister cities members to ensure sustainability and avoid dependency on government for structural support
• Develop a replicable organic and volunteer driven organization model
• Establish regional chapters in the diaspora and local chapters in Liberia. Our Goals:
Develop municipal partnerships between Liberian institutions, towns, cities, counties, and similar jurisdictions in the U.S. and other nations
- Create opportunities for the citizens of sister cities to experience and explore other cultures through long-term community partnerships
Create an atmosphere in which economic development and trade can be developed, implemented and strengthened
Stimulate environments through which Liberia and foreign communities can creatively learn, work and solve problems together
Collaborate with organizations in Liberia, the United States and other countries sharing similar goals
What We Do
• Reactivate sister cities relationships between Liberian cities or institutions and cities or institutions abroad.
• Create new sister cities relationships between Liberian cities or institutions and cities or institutions abroad.
• Maintain communications links between Liberian sister cities/institutions as well as their diaspora counterparts.
• Support sister cities/institutions in leveraging available opportunities within their sister cities/institutions.
• Ensure that all donations received from sister cities/institutions are actually shipped to Liberia without incident, received and properly accounted for and reach the intended beneficiaries.
