Today, we commemorate the 82nd Anniversary of D-Day and honor the courage, sacrifice, and resolve of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

Their bravery helped secure freedom for future generations and remains a lasting reminder of the cost of liberty.

We remember those who served, those who sacrificed, and those who never came home.

The Atlanta Metropolitan Council continues to be an award winning council. At the National Convention National President Larry Salter and National Executive Director Mike Stevens once again named Atlanta as a Meritorius Council. In addition, we won the Sea Service Adoption Excellence Award in recognition of our adoption of the USS Gladiatior last year. And, our council newsletter received a Bronze Mackie Award. SAC Region President and past Council President Chuck McCleskey accepted the awards for the council.

The longest carrier deployment since the Vietnam War is over.

The sailors of the Ford Carrier Strike Group answered the call and stayed the course through one of the most demanding deployments in modern naval history. Their dedication represents the very best of our sea services.

Behind every sailor is a family whose service often goes unrecognized. They carried this deployment too.

Supporting our sailors and their families is central to the Navy League's mission. Deployments like this remind us that service doesn't end at the waterline.

Thank you, and welcome home. BZ!
