The next meeting of the Anderson County Historical Society is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12, at 6:00 PM at the Anderson County Public Library.

Our speaker will be Robbie Morgan, a Lawrenceburg native & director of the Anderson County Tourism Commission.
She will be speaking about genealogical tourism here in Anderson County.

Robbie has years of experience in organizing large events, fundraising, and the hospitality business. After graduating from the University of Toronto, she became the college’s alumni development director and served as director of volunteers for LexArts. She has also served as director of events and sponsorships for Smiley Pete Publishing and created and managed Crave Lexington Food & Music. She has executed fundraising events for the University of Kentucky Art Museum and also owned and managed a successful Lexington restaurant.

The next meeting of the Anderson County Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, April 14th, at 6:00 PM. We will meet at Robert B. Turner Elementary, located at 1411 Fox Creek Rd, Lawrenceburg, KY 40342.

Our guest speaker will be Anne Freeman, a former student and teacher at Western Elementary. She will be sharing the history of the school and its community. In addition to the presentation, a collection of old yearbooks and photographs will be available for viewing.

We hope you will join us to learn more about this special part of Anderson County and the people connected to it. Meetings are free of charge and everyone is welcome to attend.

The next meeting of the Anderson County Historical Society is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, at 6:00 PM at Dowling Hall at 321 South Main St. in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. It was built in 1886 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It is a two-and-a-half-story west-facing brick house, with a three-story central pavilion.

We'll be discussing the history of the Dowling family and their connection to the home and the surrounding community. We look forward to sharing what we’ve learned and hearing any additional insights members may have.

The next meeting of the Anderson County Historical Society is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, at 6:00 PM at the Anderson County Public Library 114 North Main Street in Lawrenceburg.

Our speaker will be Andrew Dickson, a Kentucky Military History Consultant and a dedicated historian with a passion for preserving the stories of service members.

Andy brings deep expertise in military genealogy, historical research, and modern interpretive approaches to his work. A 2013 graduate of the University of Kentucky with a degree in history, he served for five years as the Command Historian for the Kentucky National Guard. Over the course of his 23-year military career—spanning both active duty and the National Guard—he deployed and trained in diverse locations, including Iraq, Germany, Australia, Belize, and across the United States.

In addition to his military service, Andy spent over seven years in public affairs, where he produced historical features, news stories, and multimedia content for military audiences. As a Kentucky native, he is particularly passionate about uncovering and documenting the lived experiences of everyday soldiers and how their individual stories offer a unique window into our shared history.

The Anderson County Historical Society meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 13, at 6:00 PM at the Anderson Public Library, 114 North Main Street in Lawrenceburg.

Our speaker will be David Mountjoy, a third generation Saddlebred breeder. David, along with his father William David “Billie” Mountjoy II (1913–1983), was inducted on August 24, 2013, into the World’s Championship Horse Show Hall of Fame, held during the Kentucky State Fair. David will no doubt share stories of his grandfather "Corduroy" Mountjoy and father Billie Mountjoy and discusses many owners and trainers he has worked with, including Walter Murphy, Frank Bradshaw, and Earl Teater. Their horses included Night Prowler, Mountjoy's Premier Starheart, Kentucky Moonshine, Royal Rex Sea, and Perfect Mate to a Perfect Jewel. In addition to horses, David knows a lot of general Anderson County history and has many stories to share.

Meetings are free and everyone is welcome to attend.

The Anderson County Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 6:00 pm at the Anderson County Library, 114 North Main Street in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

We’re pleased to welcome Leah W. Craig, Deputy Director of the Kentucky Historical Society, as our next guest speaker.

A Lawrenceburg native, Ms Craig will share an overview of the many resources the Kentucky Historical Society offers — from exhibits and events to the research library and collections available online, including materials related to Anderson County history.
Ms Craig brings over a decade of museum and nonprofit experience, having worked with the National Corvette Museum, the Historic Paris-Bourbon County/Hopewell Museum, and the Oklahoma History Center.

She holds a B.A. from Western Kentucky University and an M.A. in Public History from Auburn University. Her interests include nineteenth century religion, material culture, and museum administration. She also has a special interest in disaster preparedness, having served as an AmeriCorps Member with the American Red Cross.

Meetings are free and everyone is welcome to attend.

Where are the following old communities in Anderson County; Cheshire, Bostonville, and Little Beaver? These names appear in family history research, but I cannot locate them, even on old maps. Thanks.
