Sorry, I could not negotiate support to purchase theater before waylaid by Theresa Schaede. I continue to pray for appropriate ownership and restoration of the Yates Center Temple Theater.

I am still here ---when I lived in Yates Center until 2015 I had meetings nearly every week at Feed Bunk but no one joined me to discuss the historic square. I am here --let me know what you need.

The owners of the Plaza Theater claim that it's been showing movies since 1905, and that it's the oldest operating movie theater in America.

The latest news regarding Saturday meetings is that people are asking about it .... we need more members. Official organization will purchase the Woodson County Opera House and/or the Temple Theater. 117 W. Butler is the Temple Theater. It is likely going to be auctioned off for back taxes in June 2014. An organization would bring the community together to create a wonderful community building for a variety of uses. We are looking at a Community Development Block Grant or CDBG. We must first own the building and raise matching funds. 115 W. Butler is also for sell. I was told the asking price is $55,000. One suggestion for fundraising is to establish a weekly Walk-In Theater at Delay Stadium. Instead of showing mainstream movies, we will show a variety of PG content from the Internet. There are thousands of interesting educational videos on the Internet about a variety of topics. We will not charge an entry fee, but will ask for donations several times during the event. We will also serve healthy popcorn and lemonade. The Yates Center City Council indicated we could use the Delay Stadium as long as there were no scheduling conflicts. The goal is to build a large screen about 30'x50' that will be constructed and put in place on the concrete slab on the west side of the football field. People will sit in the bleachers and we will use the loud speaker to moderate the sound. We are planning to stream the videos through a computer and projector. We have several laptop offers, but need a good projector. A great project for Spring 2014 to entertain locals and visitors to Yates Center.
