Congrats Amber!
At the recent Montana Historical Society History Conference held in Great Falls, Amber Bell received the 2024 Emerging Scholar Contest Award from magazine editor Jeff Bartos for her research and article “‘Overrun by Fire’: The Environmental Consequences of Beaver Removal during the Pacific Northwest Fur Trade,” published in our Autumn 2024 issue. Amber is a MA graduate in public and environmental history at Colorado State University. She earned a BA in history and a BS degree in zoology from Weber State University. Her research on water ecology history in the West examines how humans and culture have changed aquatic ecological processes. Her current research project is on trans-basin water diversions and fisheries in the Colorado River headwaters in Grand County, Colorado. Congratulations, Amber and thanks to all the writers who submitted their entries. Submissions for the 2025 Emerging Scholar Contest are due by January 5, 2025! The winning author will receive $1000, have their article published in “Montana,” and present their research at the 2025 Conference in Helena.
