🚨 Keep Lawrence Clean — Avoid Fines Up to $300! 🚨

The City of Lawrence Inspectional Services Department will conduct inspections and enforce City Ordinance 15.12.220: Garbage and Rubbish Storage and Disposal / Cleanliness of Premises.

Property owners, tenants, and businesses are reminded to:

Properly store all garbage and rubbish in appropriate covered containers.

Keep sidewalks, yards, driveways, and exterior areas free of litter, debris, and accumulated rubbish.

Dispose of household waste and bulky items properly; do not leave materials outside or on public ways.

Maintain clean and sanitary premises to help protect public health, neighborhood quality of life, and community pride.

Violations may result in fines of up to $300.

Please take a moment to inspect your property and address any garbage, rubbish, or cleanliness concerns before an inspection occurs. Working together, we can keep Lawrence clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

It is with sadness that I share the passing of Active Duty Firefighter John Benoit, who died on July 11, 2026, after a battle with occupational cancer. He was a cousin of mine, and my family as well as Lawrence Fire extend our condolences.

John was appointed to the Everett Fire Department on February 5, 1996, and served the City of Everett for more than 30 years.

Please keep the Benoit family and the Everett Fire Department in your thoughts and prayers.

🚨 Northeast Weather Alert – Canadian Wildfire Smoke 🚨

Smoke from ongoing Canadian wildfires is expected to spread across portions of the Northeast on Wednesday, creating hazy skies across the region. While much of the smoke is forecast to remain aloft, some areas could see smoke mix down to the surface, leading to reduced air quality.

Those with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other respiratory conditions should use extra caution if spending time outdoors. If you experience difficulty breathing, consider limiting outdoor activities and keeping windows closed.

Air quality may vary significantly from one location to another, so continue to monitor the latest forecasts and local air quality reports throughout the day.

WATER ADVISORY 7/14/26 – COLONIAL HEIGHTS RESIDENTS ONLY

Mayor Brian A. DePeña, the City of Lawrence Water & Sewer Department would like to notify Colonial Heights residents, particularly those living in the area around Emerald Avenue, that hydrant flushing is currently taking place in the neighborhood.

As a result, some residents may experience temporary rusty or discolored water. This is a normal occurrence during hydrant flushing and should clear as the system is flushed.

If you notice discolored water:

Let your cold water run for several minutes until it becomes clear.
Avoid washing white or light-colored clothing until the water clears.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as the Water & Sewer Department performs this important maintenance to help maintain the reliability and quality of our water system.

Even after yesterday’s devastating five-alarm fire on Haverhill Street, the work of the Lawrence Fire Department continued through the night. Crews maintained a fire watch, keeping a pump on scene to extinguish stubborn hot spots and ensure the area remained safe.

During the early morning hours, our firefighters made an unexpected rescue. This cat was found alive inside one of the fire-damaged structures. Firefighter Matt Blanchard gently brought the cat to Fire Alarm, where it has been given food, fresh water, and a safe place to rest while we work to locate its family.

We’re happy to report our newest “Fire Alarm recruit” is resting comfortably and receiving plenty of care.
