MA Vet to Vet

MA Vet to Vet Massachusetts Vet to Vet was established as a grass roots community effort initiated by the Springfield College of Human Services in Manchester, NH.

MASS Vet to Vet provides an opportunity for veterans of all ages, services, and personal history to meet; these meetings provide the means for those veterans that may need help from other veterans that may offer help. It was a Veteran Peer to Peer Community Project Group in 2013 to provide meaningful peer led support for veterans in The Commonwealth. They partnered with NH Vet to Vet at the Derry

Friendship Center in Derry, NH and identified a non-profit group called New England Veterans Liberty House [NEVLH] in Lawrence, MA who welcomed the opportunity to host the first MA Vet to Vet Peer Support Group meetings. NEVLH ' s mission, based on veterans helping veterans, is to provide supportive services and referrals for veterans. Vet to Vet is a peer driven support group where veterans can help one another work through the issues frequently experienced as they reintegrate into civilian life. Vet to Vet is open to all veterans, regardless of the years of their service, gender, or whether they were in combat or not. All that matters is that you served your country! Vet to Vet is endorsed by the Veterans Administration, but is not part of the VA. Meetings are normally overseen by two or more Vet to Vet peer facilitators who have been mentored and trained by caring veterans just like them and have received peer support group training. If you are a veteran, you belong at Vet to Vet. All veterans are welcome and it does not matter what war you were in or not in. Our groups do not exist to discuss or attain a disability rating. We are here to learn about ourselves, our problems, and how we affect the other people in our lives. We are here to help each other deal with problems adjusting to life after having been in combat, military trauma, or extended separation from family and community. We are here to help each other deal with problems such as anger, isolation, seclusion, anxiety, depression, and the need to use drugs or alcohol, to escape from these problems. We help each other re-learn how to function in society. We are here for mutual fellowship and benefit. We are caring veterans who are “Paying it Forward.”
From one veteran to another, please join in on our group discussions.

Now the question remains, how long before the bureaucracy and red tape prevent these from actually getting to the ones in need.
