Haskell LIGHT

Haskell LIGHT A student center and campus ministry next to Haskell Indian Nations University. We welcome you!

Our goal is to help our Native men & women at Haskell overcome adversity and succeed. Pola Farve runs the "Haskell LIGHT" (aka Sacred Ground) Campus Student Center at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. Students can come study, play games, watch movies, make music, cook, make art, sew, fellowship in Bible study and create lasting memories together. Our new activities and hours a

re based on student surveys and feedback. Our goal is to walk with and alongside our Native brothers and sisters, letting our light shine before them, that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven. (Matthew 5:16)

Nearly 1,000 students from 145 tribes attend the university each semester. Pola, with the help of student outreach coordinators, volunteers and partners; strive to develop meaningful relationships with these young adults at a time when they are searching and forming their core values and beliefs. This is a huge win for Alaska Native and American Indian tribes everywhere. Well done Winnebago tribe. Praying for your healing ❤️‍🩹🙏🏽🌺

A big win for the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and Tribal sovereignty!

Today, the Fourth Circuit confirmed Winnebago’s right under NAGPRA to seek the return of its children buried at the Carlisle Indian School Cemetery, saying “At the end of the day, the U.S. government kept and buried the remains of two Native American schoolchildren, Samuel Gilbert and Edward Hensley, without their families’ or tribe’s consent after forcing them from their homes and after they died in the government’s care. Nearly a century later, Congress passed a statute that, by its terms, entitles their tribe finally to bring their remains home and to bury them according to their tribal and religious traditions."
