Urge the Retirement Plus Conference Committee to act before August 29!

After years of advocacy, we are closer than ever before to seeing legislation to provide an opportunity to some of our state’s longest-serving teachers the ability to opt-into the Retirement Plus system after being unfairly left out 25 years ago.

The House passed their version of the bill in July 2025, with the Senate taking up the bill in June of this year. Each chamber unanimously passed their version of the legislation and are now in the process of meeting to reconcile the differences between the two versions.

We need your help to get it over the finish line.

Please contact the six-member Conference Committee and your elected legislators and urge action before the end of August.

Great win for a Fair Share! AFT MA STRONG!

Today, Boston Teachers Union President Erik Berg and Salem Teachers Union 1258 VP Karen Tucker & Para Chair Barbara McLellan joined Gov. Healey as she introduced a new supplemental budget appropriating $100 million Fair Share funds to help districts close funding gaps heading into the new school year.

With this bill, AFT MA districts will receive much-needed funds, including $5M for Boston, $2.6M for Springfield, $1.8M for Lynn, $1.6M for Lowell, and more.

Today’s announcement isn’t the end of the fight to get our districts what they need, but it is an essential step. We thank Gov. Healey for her commitment to investing in our communities and taking this action to alleviate some of the pressure our districts are facing.

We’ll always be proud of our work to help pass the Fair Share Amendment, but we’re extra proud on the days we see that money being used as the voters intended: investing in our students and our public schools.
