June is Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.
Trauma and violence can complicate the lives of boys and men who have been taught to bottle up their emotions and“tough it out”.
Acknowledging your mental health is not a sign of weakness-but an act of courage. Strength is having the vulnerability to heal, and that includes destigmatizing the process of seeking treatment and support after violence.
You don’t have to carry the weight alone. And it is always OK to ask for help.

If you or a loved one are navigating the aftermath of violence or trauma please check out our online resource survivor serieshttps://www.stacarecenter.org/_files/ugd/f98d71_53b731e1ee2d459fbbf632683f1e0aef.pdf

Happy Pride🌈

Our focus this month is to honor those who have dedicated their lives to advocate for trans and 2SLGBTQIA plus lives throughout modern history. This week we highlight Indigenous champions in the work to support survivors.

Barbara Cameron, born on May 22,1954, grew up on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation. A Hunkpapa Lakota, Cameron led a life of community organizing and activism on behalf of Two-Spirit people.

Two spirit is an English translation of the Northern Algonquin word 'niiz manitoag'.

Cameron left the reservation to pursue her educational dreams first at the Institute of American Indian arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico and then at the San Francisco Art Institute. She arrived in San Francisco in 1973 and went on to have a successful career as an artist and photographer. But it was her work as a community organizer in activist that changed peoples lives.

In the 1970s racism within San Francisco’s gay and le***an community meant that LGBTQ Indigenous communities had few cultural outlets and limited social resources to call on so they created their own-and Cameron led these efforts.

At the CARE Center, we envision a future free from sexual abuse and trauma. This month and every month we remain committed to supporting survivors with compassion dignity and the resource resources they deserve.

We are an organization dedicated to supporting transgender and 2SLGBTQIA + survivors of trauma and sexual violence.
