Attention students!

On Thursday, August 6th at 10:00 am CST there will be a Zoom info session: Fulbright Grants for U.S. citizens in Poland, Bulgaria and Romania where you can learn more about Fulbright opportunities in Central and Eastern Europe. Register at tinyurl.com/FulbrightPRB

During this meeting, you will have a chance to meet representatives from three Fulbright Commissions: Fulbright Bulgaria, Fulbright Romania and Fulbright Poland, and learn more about current Fulbright grants for U.S. Students, Scholars, and English Teaching Assistants (ETAs). You will also hear directly from Fulbright alumni about their experiences in these countries. We will conclude with a joint Q&A session, so please bring your questions!

This meeting is designed for potential U.S. applicants, Fulbright Program Advisers, and other university staff and administrators interested in current Fulbright opportunities in Central and Eastern Europe. We hope to see you there!

KU is well represented at the"Translating Ukraine Summer Institute," a 2-week workshop in Wrocław, Poland, held at the National Ossoliński Institute. Graduate students Oksana Vykhopen and Jordan Zaugg are part of this year's cohort. Prof. Vitaly Chernetsky spoke to the group of aspiring translators yesterday to discuss his work on translating Sofia Andrukhovych's novel Felix Austria.

Oksana's translation project is the play The Year One Thousand Nine Hundred Thirty-Three by Serhii Kokot-Ledianskyi (Тисяча дев'ятсот тридцять третій рік, Сергій Кокот-Ледянський). This play explores the horrors of the Holodomor through the experiences of Kyiv Komsomol students.

Jordan's project is the play At the Beginning and the End of Times by Pavlo Arie (На початку і на прикінці часів, Павло Ар'є). The play is about the struggles of a "returnee" family living in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone, where they legally do not exist.

Prof. Chernetsky's talk was titled "Rendering Ukraine’s Diversity in Translation: Lessons from Felix Austria."
