To end our first week, we met online with our sister program from Memphis, TN at the Peabody Hotel. We traveled to LMH Health where Shane and Nicole with Volunteer Services did our hospital orientation. We had lunch and then worked on accessing the Google Drive before returning to KU for some more team building. It was a great first week!

We’ve had a busy few days! Wednesday we started our day at the Sunflower Cafe. It was fun to see the Project Life Students and some former Project SEARCH interns. Our LMH Health crew did their health screenings while our KU Interns did some travel training. On Thursday we did some team building, had our hearing and vision screenings at the district office and checked out our laptops at Pinckney. We had lunch at LMH and did a scavenger hunt before returning to KU to catch our rides home.

We spent the morning talking about classroom and work place expectations followed by some team building. Then we walked to the Union where we had lunch and toured the KU Bookstore and KJHK 90.7 FM. We ended the day with a mini scavenger hunt. We are working on building our endurance and learning how to navigate the KU Campus.

We had a great first day with our new 2026-27 Project SEARCH interns. We visited Monarch Watch, KU Storeroom, Ambler Recreation Center, the Welcome Center and the KU Student Union. We took the city bus back to our classroom in Carruth O'Leary Hall where we talked about our highs and lows for the day.

Sunflower Cafe not only provides our LMH Heath Project SEARCH crews with a 3rd place (i.e., a place in the community to belong outside of home and school), they also go above and beyond to provide a “we see you, know you, and know your name” environment for all community members and patrons. We appreciate all you do for us and our community, Sunflower Cafe
