Notes from the Sept. 29th Meeting:
We got funding from MEF ($2250), Student Senate ($750), and Coca-Cola Funding
($1000) for Michael Reyes' Performance!
We need ideas for outreach for the show. We'll be chalking on Tues, Oct. 18th. Meet as Wescoe at 8pm if you can come.
Alternative Winter Break by the ECM on immigration in Chicago working with the Mexican Solidarity Network. It's Jan 7 - 14, 2011. For more info, come to the informational meeting Oct. 6th at the ECM at 6 pm.

Sept. 15th Meeting:
We're switching to biweekly meetings, so the NEXT MEETING is Sept. 29. There is a RALLY against Sam Brownback on Sept. 16. The bus leaves from Plymouth at 8:45 am and the protest is at 10 am. There is a LAND GENERAL MEETING on Sept. 24 at 7 pm. We're TABLING at the student group information fair Oct. 22, so we need people from 10:30 am - 1 pm. There is an Immigration Conference. If you're interested, let us know.

Sept. 8th Meeting (2/2): General Group Goals and Ideas for the Year
- shed light on current immigration policies
- to get students more involved and aware
- help organize protests and calls to legislators
- cooperate with school departments for additional support/funding (LAA?)
- greater press involvement with school/local papers
- increase internet presence
- educate local legislators
- increase multicultural support (move to include other demographics)

Sept. 8th Meeting (1/2): We are working with HALO to bring Michael Reyes, an immigrant rights activist and a spoken word poet, to KU on Oct. 21st.

Event Goals:
- raise awareness about immigration reform
- provide counterbalance against Kobach's anti-immigrant position
- provide introduction to the group (should be held earlier than later)

Potential Locations: stage outside the Union or Wescoe beach

We should also try to include local artists and research low-cost additions to the event.

Hey in case you've missed some meetings, here's some quick summaries about what went on:

Sept 1st. Meeting

LAND(Lawrence Action Network for Diversity) is an immigrants rights group of about 50 people in different branches—art, media, outreach, street theater—but they're missing a campus presence. So that's where we come in: The Student Coalition for Immigrant Rights.

The Current Political Climate: KS is going to introduce bills taking away in-state tuition and make Arizona copycat laws
