Sometimes the best part of sports is the bonding that happens off the field. 🍦 After a recent game, Coach Mentor Melissa took the Grade 8 Wolverines to Benson’s Ice Cream, making game day a lot more than a win or loss.

Moments like these are no accident. Our coach mentors work hard to create them for their teams every season, because they understand the importance of connection.

Fuel for Performance Friday! 🍎⚽️

Our Impact Coordinator, Declan, wrapped up two interactive Fuel for Performance courses this past week, starting with our Grade 6-8 boys teams! The sessions revisited our original “Stop and Think” curriculum, which focuses on the power of choosing water over sugary beverages.

We are incredibly proud of this curriculum, which we developed in partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital to help our players make healthy, high-performance choices both on and off the training pitch! 📈🥤

More courses to come for the remaining travel teams!

An early morning well worth it! ☀️ This week, Coach Mentor Katherine Facenda represented Beyond Soccer at The Women's Fund Grantee Recognition Breakfast, alongside Lawrence partners like YDO and Bellesini Academy.

We were proud to be there as part of our three-year Resilient Girls cohort, and there was no one better to represent us than Katherine. She’s been part of this program since before it was even called Beyond Soccer, more than 15 years, and today she leads our Lionesses, our grade 5 and 6 girls team.

She left re-inspired and full of ideas for the girls in our community, which is exactly why she’s an MVP in our book. Big thanks to the Women’s Fund for giving Katherine even more ways to help our girls grow stronger and more resilient.

Weekend match recap! 🎬⚽️

Our 7th and 8th grade boys and girls teams were locked in all weekend long hosting teams from Haverhill and Wakefield, led by long-time players and veteran coach mentors Issandel and Melissa. Swipe through to see the energy on the pitch and the chemistry in our halftime huddles.

Thursday night vibes were unmatched! ✨

Just listen to those laughs! Our In-City Rec program was back in action last night, and our Coach Mentors kicked things off with a great team-building activity.

Learning to work together as a group is a huge part of what we do, and there is nothing better than seeing the kids out on the field having fun, and just enjoying being a team!

Today we’re shining a light on longtime Coach Mentor Andy, who’s become so much more than a coach mentor to us.

Andy has been part of the Beyond Soccer family for over ten years. He grew up in our programs and is now one of the leaders our younger players look up to.

If you’ve ever enjoyed our photos, that’s all Andy, usually the one behind the camera, which is why it’s so rare to catch him in front of the lens for once! And the photos are just the start: he also helps with our Canva designs, supports our website, and much more, all while balancing life as a busy Boston College student and still coming out on weekends.

We’re so grateful for you, Andy. Thank you for capturing the moments that make Beyond Soccer what it is.

🌧️The storm might have wiped out our games on the grass fields this weekend, but it takes more than steady rain to keep us off the practice field.

Tonight, we are officially back under the lights on the turf for practice! That is one of the biggest perks of having access to a reliable turf field: no mud, no rain cancellations, and absolutely no days off. Our players are ready to huddle up and get right back to work! 🤝⚽

The calm before the storm. 🌥️ Games are canceled this weekend with the weather rolling in, but we made the most of a great week of practices, including this one with our 5th and 6th graders under a beautiful sunset.

None of it would be possible without our partnership with Greater Lawrence Technical School. We’ve lost count of the seasons they’ve saved for us, and this one is no exception. Supporting 500+ kids, plus all the visiting towns on game days, is no small task, and GLTS has become a true second home for our program. And those fields? Beautiful.

Thank you, GLTS for showing up for our kids season after season.

Twice a year, our players take on the PACER test, running to a beat that keeps getting faster. 💪 It’s a team effort, too: teammates count each other’s laps and cheer them on, like these two pictured keeping score for the runners in front of them.

Last year, 204 players completed 456 tests, and the kids who started with the most room to grow improved by an average of 13.3 laps. That’s real progress in their health and fitness!

Thank you to the New Balance Foundation for helping us make fitness a core part of what we do, and to Boston Children’s Hospital for their help with data collection and measurements. This year’s PACER is already underway, and we can’t wait to see the improvements ahead!
