Our Vision:
All children aging out of foster care who are unable to grow up in a family unit will be able to flourish in life. What we offer:
An eight-week program for youth that age-out of the foster care system. This program has interactive workshops to give youth a hands-on experience with meal preparation, housing, budgeting, and employment preparation, etc...
We provide information on s*x, p
hysical, and mental health education; as well as continued educational goals. Individuals who are caring, compassionate, supportive and knowledgeable in each of these areas will guide these activities. Presently our Goals:
Is to open The Lighthouse Transition Program in 2022, an 18-24 month program for youth between the ages of 16-24 who are aging out of the foster care system. The program will provide a safe and secure home environment with mentors to assist those in the program with learning the skills needed to move from dependence to independence. It will provide the participant with a place to live, a home to practice essential skills such as laundry, cooking and cleaning, and a live in mentor to assist them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition, each participant will receive mentoring and counseling for finances, job skills such as interviewing, resume building, assistance with job searching, promote activity within their community through volunteering, encourage participation in extracurricular activities, and guidance for continuing education. StopGap Inc. will provide and offer it's services to those who desire to access them through outreach programs. Through partnerships with other non-profit organizations in the Lawrence area, it is our hope to have an interconnecting web between these organizations to increase what services we have and can provide for youth in the area.
