A huge THANK YOU to KU CARES and Sigma Chi at The University of Kansas for volunteering at our Light the Way 5K!

Our volunteers are a vital part of what we do every day at the Lawrence Community Shelter and at our events. KU CARES and Sigma Chi brought so much joy, dedication, and excitement to the morning, cheering on our runners and helping make the day such a success!

What an incredible day for our community! 💙

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our very first 5K fundraiser! Every participant, every sponsor, every community partner, and every person who helped make this event possible played a part in making our first 5K such a success. Your generosity, encouragement, and commitment to our neighbors experiencing homelessness mean so much to us.

A special thank you to our event sponsors and community partners for helping bring this vision to life, and to Steve Chalman of Stormhaven Photography for capturing so many wonderful moments from the day!

✨ We Light the Way Together!

On Saturday, September 19th, at Rock Chalk Park, we hosted our inaugural Light the Way 5K Fun Run, and it was a GREAT success!

One of our favorite parts of the morning was asking participants and volunteers to complete a card sharing why they Light the Way for the Lawrence Community Shelter. The responses were heartfelt, inspiring, and a wonderful reminder of the many reasons our community comes together to support our mission.

These messages represent what the Light the Way 5K was all about: community, compassion, hope, and helping our neighbors find a path toward permanent housing.

We truly could not have made this event possible without the incredible support of our community, volunteers, participants, sponsors, and partners. Each person who ran, walked, volunteered, sponsored, donated, cheered, or helped behind the scenes played an important part in making this event happen.

Be on the lookout for more pictures from the 5K! We’ll be sharing photos that capture the morning and highlight the many people who helped make the Light the Way 5K possible.

On Wednesday, August 26th, these incredible community partners showed up for our guests during Wellness Wednesday at Lawrence Community Shelter:

✨Mainstreet Credit Union
✨Kansas Department of Revenue
✨Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health
✨Visiting Nurses Association

These vital services and the compassionate individuals who provide them help bridge the gap for our guests, connecting them directly with important resources, support, and care.

We host Wellness Wednesday on the last Wednesday of each month, bringing community partners directly into the shelter so our guests have easier access to services that can make a meaningful difference in their lives.

As we continue to grow our Continuous Stay Program, it is imperative that our guests have direct, on-site access to these services. Having trusted community partners right here at the shelter helps remove barriers and creates opportunities for our guests to receive the support they need.

We are so appreciative of the time, compassion, and dedication each of these organizations brings to our community. Thank you for showing up, spending time with our guests, answering questions, providing resources, and helping ensure our guests have access to dignified, respectful, and compassionate care.
