Sporting Kaw Valley (SKV) is once again looking for coaches for their Spring season. They have various teams and age groups that still need coaches - U8, U10, U12, U14, and High School. This is a paid position. They play in Lawrence on Saturdays, and practice two times per week. The games go from March 26 to May 14. Practices start March 21.

Please reach out to Mauro Nobre at [email protected] if you are interested. LASL will once again offer a 50% discount on LASL Spring registration for those who volunteer, even though these are now paid positions.

Black Lives Matter. The tragic and unjust killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery are only the most recent murders to make national news. The protests we are witnessing across this country reflect the frustration many feel with the lack of accountability in the criminal justice system. All perpetrators must be brought to justice including members of the police. We know this is only one aspect of how we can move toward a more equitable society in which people are treated with dignity regardless of race.

Sadly, this is not just a problem in our country. Last year, Kick It Out, England’s soccer anti-racism and pro-inclusion group, released findings showing a 32% increase in discrimination on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, religion, and race from the year prior. 65% of those incidents were related to race. In a recent example, a match between England and Bulgaria included N**i salutes and monkey chants directed at black England players. This is all to say that our beloved sports’ hands are not clean in this matter.

The LASL board acknowledges racism is real in our country and in our game. We, therefore, stand with the peaceful protestors seeking change. And, to you, we reaffirm our promise of zero tolerance toward any forms of racism or any other form of discrimination (based on gender, religion, sexual orientation, country of origin, etc.) in our league as outlined in our existing inclusion policy (http://www.lasl.org/Page.asp?n=152095&org=lasl.org). Our mission is, and always will be, to create a safe environment for people to play the game they love without fear.

Hi all

Just an update on our situation regarding COVID-19 orders. As you will have seen, Laura Kelly announced that we will be moving to Phase 2 re-opening on June 1st which will allow larger gatherings of people. Unfortunately (or wisely depending on which way you look at it) Lawrence Parks and rec is taking a more cautious approach and is not allowing any use of the fields at YSI until at least June 29th. USD497 and Rock Chalk are also in much the same boat if not out of commission for even longer. We are at the mercy of our field providers at this point.

As such this will leave us very little time, if any, to organize a summer league either outdoor or indoor unless something changes drastically in the near future. We will continue to monitor the situation and pass on any further information we receive.

We hope you are all staying safe and sane and working out in private or small groups in anticipation of a return to competitive soccer sometime in the future.

All the best

First off, we hope that you are all staying safe and well during these uncertain times. We just wanted to let you know that we are still here and ready to go as soon as we are able. Unfortunately, we are at the whims of Governor Kelly (with regard to reopening gatherings) and the school district with regard to fields. Currently, we are under Phase 1.5 of the Kansas reopening plan which does not allow gatherings of more than 10 people and no organized outdoor sports. Together with that, the school district will not be reopening this semester, and as such their facilities will remain closed until they do reopen - next school year at the earliest.

As such, it does not look as if a summer league is going to be feasible, and, at best we are looking at starting up again in the Fall. However, we will continue to monitor the situation and reevaluate as necessary if anything changes.

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help during this time and we hope to see you all back on the fields as soon as humanly possible. For now, we will have to look forward to the Bundesliga opening back up this weekend and hopefully the Premier League and MLS shortly thereafter - although without spectators. maybe we can arrange virtual watch parties for some games over Zoom so that we can all scream and shout at the refs together :)

All the best and stay safe

It is with a heavy heart that we regret to inform you that the Spring 2020 outdoor season has been canceled. Due to an abundance of caution and the closing of all available fields until at least May, we have been forced into canceling the season.

We will begin processing full refunds for all those who have already registered online. Those who registered by check will receive an email from us shortly to sort out details of reimbursement.

We hope that you will find ways to remain active and fit during this off time and we sincerely hope that we will be able to hold out summer league as planned. There are numerous fitness resources being posted by various entities and we will endeavor to send these out when we receive them.

We will keep everyone updated as things progress.

Thanks for your understanding during this uncertain time.
