Mike Strouse is President & CEO of CLO/GoodLife Innovations, a non-profit that has created a sustainable, community-based model to help meet a significant unmet need for care seniors and individuals with developmental disabilities. They have developed a neighborhood network that provides 24/7 on-demand care that is less expensive than assisted living and allows people to remain in their homes. Our friends at Lawrence Public Library have spent months working on a community vision plan. City Librarian Brad Allen shared key points from the plan at our last meeting, which addresses changing community needs for our growing city. Brad and his team spent months gathering information from community members via surveys, town hall meetings and focus groups. We're looking forward to these exciting changes, and so grateful to have such a vibrant and adaptable public library in Lawrence!

Thank you to longtime Rotarian Andrea Norris for her delightful presentation "Growing Apples in Kansas." Andrea and her partner Tom Beisecker run Beisecker Farms, an apple orchard near Baldwin City. They have over 300 apple trees and 12 varieties of apples. The apples are sold locally, made into c***r and they donate thousands of pounds of apples to Just Food every year. This year, they had no apples, thanks to a boomer year for raccoons (see the last picture). Thank you for everything you do for Rotary, and for providing local apples to our community, Andrea!

We're teaming up with Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club and Lawrence Central Rotary Club again this year to provide snacks to Lawrence USD 497 students! We're bringing packaged snacks to meetings through September, and all three clubs will meet at Maceli's Catering & Events in October to sort snacks and prepare them for delivery to our schools.

Lawrence Public Library has launched a literacy program! Adult Education Specialist Liz Stuewe told us all about it at our last meeting. Volunteers help interested library patrons learn how to speak, read and write in English.
