October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Every year, thousands of individuals across the Commonwealth are impacted by intimate partner abuse. In fact, Massachusetts law enforcement receives over 26,000 domestic violence incident reports annually.

Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or gender. It can look like physical harm, verbal abuse, extreme control, isolation from family and friends, or financial restrictions.

The Police Department wants you to know that you are not alone, and there is help out there. If you or someone you care about is trapped in an unhealthy or abusive relationship, please know that support is available 24/7.

Since 1987, October has been officially designated as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

It is estimated that nearly 16 million people in the United States suffer from intimate partner violence per year. Nearly 1 in 2 women and more than 2 in 5 men reported experiencing intimate partner violence at some point in their lifetime.
