KEN strives to connect partners and build capacity for out-of-school programs

The Kansas Enrichment Network is partnering with Hello Insight to hear directly from young staff ages 18–25 who are working or training in youth-serving organizations across Kansas.

The Young Staff Check-In takes about 5–8 minutes and asks young professionals about their experiences with supervision and mentorship, belonging, voice, professional growth, well-being, and workplace support.

We’re hoping to gather as many responses as possible before the Kansas Connections Conference on October 13, where the findings will help inform a statewide conversation about how we can better develop, support, and retain the next generation of youth-development professionals.

Meet featured speaker Roy Moye III, a an aerospace engineer, dynamic singer, and the founder of STEMusic LLC slated to speak at our upcoming event. He is an enthusiastic advocate for STEM and has a passion for sharing the importance of this career field to the next generation. As an accomplished singer, he has sung multiple National Anthems for professional sports teams including the Kansas City Royals, Kansas City Chiefs, Oklahoma City Thunder, and the USA Men’s Soccer Team. Along with Children’s music, Roy has a passion for serving youth in his hometown of Wichita Kansas where he mentors multiple students. He believes the children are the future and is fully invested in making sure that future is bright!

Kansas Connections Conference Featured Speaker: Kim Flores

We are thrilled to host the co-founder and CEO of Hello Insight, Dr. Kim Flores at our upcoming conference to share insights around the state of the OST sector in Kanas (and beyond). Kim has been able to realize her life-long dream of building a sustained learning community that fosters the development of young people, staff, programs, organizations, and entire fields of practice. Drawing upon her training in developmental and environmental psychology, she has introduced hundreds of adults and young people, their programs, and communities to the empowering impact of sustained participation, reflection, and evaluation. Her unique approach highlights the developmental nature of evaluation for young people, staff, organizations, donors, foundations, and communities.

The recent social media trend encouraging parents to give their children a “90s summer” sparked a lot of debate about the realities for working parents today and whether the childhood we remember is even possible anymore.

Michael Lemon, Director of the The Kansas Enrichment Network is part of a proposed SXSW EDU 2027 panel exploring this debate from a youth development lens: what the modern ecosystem of childhood should look like and why experiential learning opportunities are so critical for today’s kids and their families.
