Lawrence Parents as Teachers Parents as Teachers is a fun and free early childhood education program available to anyone who is pregnant or has a child under the age of 5.

Being a parent is a unique journey for each family - and possibly the most important and rewarding job you will ever have. Parents as Teachers is here to support you by providing evidence based services to help you understand each stage of your child's growth and development. After all, you are your child's first and most important teacher! Parents as Teachers is a fun and free early childhood education program available to anyone who is pregnant or has a child under the age of 3 and lives within the USD 497 school district. It is designed to give children the best possible start in life and to prepare them for school success by supporting parents in their role as their children's first and most influential teachers. The Lawrence Parents as Teachers is an Affiliate program of the Parents as Teachers National Center, which uses an evidence-based curriculum infused with the most current neuroscience research to support child development and parent education. We offer your family:

Personalized Visits, during which we help you understand each stage of your child's development and offer practical tips to encourage learning through play and family interactions. Screenings, where we make sure each child will receive ongoing screenings in the following areas: child development, hearing, vision, and health. Group Connections, when we provide children opportunities to interact with other young children while parents connect with other parents to share information and gain new insights. Resource Connections, where we partner with you to identify and connect with community programs and resources that may be helpful to you and your family. We are officially kicking off Day 1 of Parents as Teachers International Conference in Portland, Oregon! Last night we were recognized at the opening session and were treated to a reception just for affiliates who achieved Blue Ribbon Status in 2025. Two of our team members are also celebrating milestones this year-Audrey has been with Lawrence PAT for 15 years and Stacie is celebrating 10 years! Go team! Hooray for Friday PAT community! There are two events happening this weekend that your family might be interested in

1) Load up the car, it's time for the annual Kaw Valley Farm Tour!

For two full days, always the first full weekend in October, small family and community farms across six counties in the Kaw River Valley open their gates and invite visitors to see their operations, and share their local food & goods. This is a self guided tour and only (1) ONE ticket is needed per carload.

Saturday, Oct. 3: 9 am - 5 pm

Sunday, Oct. 4: 10 am - 4 pm

2) Come stroll South Park this Sunday, Oct. 4 at the Autumn Harvest Festival from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Local artisans will be on hand with various goods such as jewelry, home decor, and other goods for sale.
