Being a parent is a unique journey for each family - and possibly the most important and rewarding job you will ever have. Parents as Teachers is here to support you by providing evidence based services to help you understand each stage of your child's growth and development. After all, you are your child's first and most important teacher! Parents as Teachers is a fun and free early childhood edu
cation program available to anyone who is pregnant or has a child under the age of 3 and lives within the USD 497 school district. It is designed to give children the best possible start in life and to prepare them for school success by supporting parents in their role as their children's first and most influential teachers. The Lawrence Parents as Teachers is an Affiliate program of the Parents as Teachers National Center, which uses an evidence-based curriculum infused with the most current neuroscience research to support child development and parent education. We offer your family:
Personalized Visits, during which we help you understand each stage of your child's development and offer practical tips to encourage learning through play and family interactions. Screenings, where we make sure each child will receive ongoing screenings in the following areas: child development, hearing, vision, and health. Group Connections, when we provide children opportunities to interact with other young children while parents connect with other parents to share information and gain new insights. Resource Connections, where we partner with you to identify and connect with community programs and resources that may be helpful to you and your family.
