Lawrence Children's Choir

LCC is a non-profit choral arts program based out of Lawrence, KS serving children ages 3-18.

Founded in 1991 by sisters Janeal Crabb Krehbiel and Marilyn Crabb Epp, the Lawrence Children’s Choir has grown from one 40-voice choir to an organization comprised of fix choirs serving singers from Northeast Kansas, including the communities of Lawrence, Perry, Emporia, Osage City, Topeka, Baldwin City and Eudora. Current choirs include Capo (ages 3-kindergarten); Cadenza (1st-3rd grade); Choris

ters (3rd-6th grade); Tour Choir (6th-12th grade); and the Crescendo Choir (Adults). Upon Janeal Krehbiel’s retirement in April, 2012, long-time assistant Carolyn Welch assumed the position of Artistic Director. Carolyn Welch retired after the 2020-2021 season, and Dr. Gabe Lewis-O'Connor, a Lawrence native and LCC alum, assumed the role of Artistic Director in the Summer of 2021.

The Lawrence Children’s Choir is pleased to announce Sara Bonner as the new director of Capo, LCC’s choir for its youngest singers. Bonner brings more than 30 years of music-teaching experience to the position. Originally from Iowa, she moved to Kansas for college and has since made Lawrence her home. She holds a Master of Music in Special Education and has taught students from preschool through college. She particularly enjoys creating and learning music alongside her students and supporting young musicians. Bonner also has a longstanding connection to the Lawrence Children’s Choir. She is the parent of two former LCC singers, has served on the LCC board, and previously taught Capo before the tenure of its most recent director, Lindsay Hatfield. “I am looking forward to meeting new families who hold music as a vital part of their everyday, and sharing songs to grow their confidence as we make music together. ” said Bonner. We had so much fun recording the “DCCCA Good News Show” with Lori Alvarado and Julie Boyle. Listen to hear Dr. Gabe and Jen on Episode 23 talk about LCC - it will air this Saturday, Aug. 15th at 7 a.m. and again at 9 a.m. Sunday, August 16th on 101.7 FM and 1320 AM KLWN. This weekend's guests are Just Food and Lawrence Children’s Choir. Thank you for highlighting so many nonprofits including us! Keep singing!

We originally planned for an all-LCC social event this coming Saturday, August 15. We have changed plans slightly, and will have a Capo and Cadenza specific gathering in September, prior to the start of the session. This Saturday is mainly for the Tour Choir retreat taking place from 9:30-11:30 am. Choristers can also stop by to use notary services from 11:30-12:30. Please check your email for more information.

Tour Choir and Choristers: rehearsals begin this next week on Monday, August 17! Crescendo, Capo and Cadenza will begin in mid-September! Thank you and we are looking forward to singing together again soon!

Thanks to everyone who attended our first ever Summer Singalong! A huge round of applause for our song leaders and guest artists Kirsten Paludan and Nick Carswell for making it so much fun!
