One of our members, Cheryl Suzanne Heide wrote a great book. This would make a wonderful summer read. If you have time, pick up this one and enjoy a great read!

At Leap of Faith Farm is a tender, clear-eyed memoir about saying yes to the life you've always imagined-and discovering what that choice truly asks of you.

When an unexpected job offer opens the door to a lifelong dream, the author and her husband leave behind their suburban Twin Cities careers for a small horse farm in southern Minnesota. What follows is a twenty-year leap into a world of hard winters, unpredictable land, close-knit neighbors, and the daily, often demanding realities of animal care.

Told through interwoven stories and poems, the book chronicles the cats, horses, wildlife, and winged visitors who shape life on the farm. Each animal arrives with its own personality, challenges, and lessons-many of them learned in the barn through veterinary visits, and after long drives for emergency care. With honesty and grace, the author reveals the emotional and physical labor behind the pastoral dream, from joyful beginnings to inevitable, heartbreaking goodbyes.

Rich with vivid descriptions of Minnesota seasons, rural community, and the intimate bond between humans and animals, At Leap of Faith Farm is both an escape from modern chaos and a grounded meditation on responsibility, love, and remembrance. Above all, it is a promise kept: to tell the stories of those who gave so much, and to ensure they are never forgotten.

More from Missy:
As I know everyone's calendars fill up quickly, I wanted to let you know, prior to our Kick Off meeting, we will be participating in the Delta Zeta Hike for Hearing and Speech for those interested. This "hike" can be as short or as long of a distance as you wish and can be done individually or with our group or any group. Any walking will count as a "hike" as long as you take a selfie picture when you have completed your "hike" (or a group picture if you hike with others). (You can send your hike picture to any of the Board members who will then submit all the pictures of our Chapter at one time.) Then, it has been suggested that each hiker make a donation and the amount can be as small as $5.00 and your donation can be given to Terry, our new Treasurer. The dates the Executive Board have scheduled are: Saturday, August 22, at 8:00 A.M. at Heritage Park in Olathe and Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 A.M. in Lawrence (location to be announced at a later date). Feel free to join the fun at either or both of these hike dates or any date that you would wish to "hike" for Delta Zeta Hike for Hearing and Speech! We will discuss the HIke for Hearing and Speech at our Kick Off meeting.
